Hi Folks, Just saw some lovely pics of the new upcoming release from Artizan on their Soviets for WW2. I've only copied one overall photo of the range sofar and three close ups. I'm sure Mike Owen (designer) will fill us in in due course and will keep you posted on release.
These figures look fantastic :)
Edit: I've just added some comments from Mike from the Yahoo group here for your information. (please note I'd to cut and paste from a few messages within the thread) My thanks to Mike for his tireless efforts in providing the gaming community his valuable time:
"I have nearly finished the command pack and have 2 packs of SMG's done
and 2 packs's of rifles all in the quilted jacket and will try and release them
after that's moulded. There will be also a pack of LMG's. I will do about 4 packs of guys in greatcoats a second command/characters pack a maxim HMG an AT gun and a mortar. That will be the basic core of the range. I have nearly done a pack of scouts and will do a
few packs of partisans to go with them. In the future I might make some
cavalry there will be tankers and AT rifles. I will do some packs for Berlin as
well."

Which year did the soviets start to use the PPsh and the padded jackets?

In sharp contrast to the Prof I normally do not like WW2 Russians that much...
However - these are different! Fantastic job  , almost tempts me to start another project...

Full title is PPsh-41 and it came out in Nov '41, replacing the PPD 40, and was basically a copy of the M31 Suomi. So realistically not available until '42.
The PPD 34 was designed in 1934 with mods in '38 (PPD34/38) and '40 (PPD 40). The PPD was basically a Bergmann MP28 with a M31 Suomi magazine - at this scale it looks pretty much the same as the PPsh except it had a small wooden foregrip in front of the magazine.
Padded jackets came out as a result of the Winter War experience but as to a date...

I have no interest in Russians. Or the Eastern Front. Or WW2 gaming beyond pulpy skirmishes. Therefore I have no use for these at all.
But I want them! I want them all!
How is this fair? :x

I hear some scientists somewhere have just cloned some monkeys or something.
Can we get them to clone Mike too, so we can set the clone to work making more Great War stuff for Brigade? These are great figures, just not my type of thing. :)

btw, there aren't any good WW1 Russians out there. Really a gap in the market. All that RCW and BoB stuff often looks similar to the russian uniforms of 1914 but not more.

I wonder if he'll do a characters pack to go with them. I do like the infantry, but the Soviet padded uniform is not exactly the most exciting uniform on the planet to look at or paint*. A pack of characters would be fun for pulp gaming, too.
*The commissar inside of me says: Fancy uniforms are for the fascists and counterrevolutionaries! The Army's uniform is progressive! It is efficient and functional without your bougerois frills! Now shut up!

Exactly, you were beginning to sound like an imperialist running dog, aping after the foppish dress of bourgeois mercenary lackeys - so unlike the pure functionalism of the brave volunteers the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army etc

Рядовой Маррэй! это что за контрреволюционные разговорчики! Молчать!

Google Translate managed to understand everything except "разговорчики".
Shutting up, Comrade Professor! :)
