I'm thinking about buying a horse drawn hearse for Gothic/VSF gaming but I'm a bit torn between two and want your opinion.
I'm not after an "Uber-Gothic" coach like the GW one or the westwind Dracula coach, just a simple hearse.
The two I'm looking at are:

by Westwind OR

By Bluemoon.
The Westwind one looks pretty good but the wheels seem very chunky and small. It has got quite a nice driver and the hearse itself is good.
The Bluemoon one looks good with a removable coffin and four horses but it seems very high and the horses appear very small. There doesn't appear to be a driver included either.
The Bluemoon is a little more expensive but that isn't an issue.
Has anyone got any actual pics of these with 28mm minis so I can get an idea of what they look like on "the table".
Cheers

Hard one. I'd say, a mix of both would be the best option. If this isn't possible so I'd take the Westwind one. It has a driver, nice horses and a fine hearse.
-
The West Wind one seems far superior to my eye. If the only issue with it is the smallish wheels, that ought to be an easy replacement...
-
That actually looks like both sets use the same horses.
-
I'd go for the Blue Moon one - the wheels are much more elegant, and the casket can be seen, for passers-by to doff their caps to.
-
I've got to say I am being drawn to the Westwind one which is really only let down by the wheels.
I think, now you mention it, the horses are the same. The Bluemoon one must be quite high to make them appear so small.
Good point about the casket being visible........... decisions ..............decisions........

I had a look around online for someone selling "Carriage Wheels" and found:

This has pretty much convinced me to go for the Westwind Hearse and add some more suitable wheels.

I think the Bluemoon one is more prototypical (I like the open sides) although it does seem to ride a little high and, as you say, the horses appear too small. Most of them seemed to require only two horses as well.
Here's a real one for comparison.

Just Google 'Victorian Hearse' under Images and you'll find plenty more examples.

I like the one from Blue moon, looks to have better detail and articulation on the carriage suspension, as well as the aforementioned open hearse section.
-
I have the WestWind one and it's a nice model. The driver is a great figure.
The Blue Moon one does look better as it's not a solid cast so you can see inside, but it does lack a driver. ::)
Go with the Wetwind one and swap out the wheels.
:)

Get both :D

Good call ;)

Is the Blue Moon one metal? I have some of their resin and they're not good casts so if it's resin I'd avoid....
-
Get the West Wind, and, Papa, I think you probably have some more suitable wheels laying about that you can use. ;)
-
Both are very nice.
For me though the choice is easy: West Wind - because there are two less horses to paint and the footprint on a gaming table is smaller. However, I do prefer the Bluemoon carrage.
-
I'd go for the Bluemoon one, it looks more pretty.
-
Just adding my €0.02.
Go Westwind. The driver is a nice figure and if you don't like the wheels, finding replacement wheels shouldn't be that difficult.
-
I'd go with the Westwood one. You can find better wheels if you don't like the ones that come with it. You get a nice driver fig and part of the trace rig for the horses. Plus since the hearse is closed it allows a certain mystery as to what actually is inside if you use for horror. Is it just a casket or something even more sinister?
-
Bluemoon. Whatever you decide it will be amazing, like all your work.
-
I rather like the look of the Bluemoon version. To me the only drawback is the lack of a driver.
-
I second the got both idea and can add: paint both and then send me the one you like the least!

Damn your eyes! Beat me to it! :D
Seriously, I know the image of the Blue Moon model seems way different, but if you look at the piccie of the original offered, that hind wheel would come up to near the driver's mid-chest. Sloppy roads made wagons higher than I know I oft imagine.
On the other hand, totally unfair: the painted Blue Moon looks MUCH better. lol

Bluemoon for a rich man's coffin, Westwind for a poor man.

I really like the Blue Moon hearse. It may just be the paint job, but it seemed so much more ornate!
