Hi All
I want to build a design (at least on paper) a fictional yet believable Secret Underground German Bunker Complex. I need help to create it. Basically what I want to know, is what rooms would you expect to find in such a bunker, be as creative as you like, it is Weird War II and pretty much anything goes. Here is my basic list.
1. Armory
2. Communciation/Radio Room
3. Mess Hall & Kitchen
4. Living/Sleeping Quarters
5. Storage Room
You can assume there is plumbing and electricty available to this complex. And all produced signs of habitation (ie smoke, steam, sewerage etc) can be disguised somehow.
Any ideas????
-
a secret weapon assembly line?
-
Couple of ideas:
Lots of Labs
Generator room/s
Secret Passages (open or sealed depending on the game you're playing)
Zombie cells
Laundry (why not?)
Interrogation chamber
Hmm, 'bout all I have for you at the moment but I'll post again if I think of anything else. Excited to see what you come up with mate.

Lab working on cheap and durable synthetic rubber and cheap fuel substitute
Atomic research
Counterfeit foreign currency printing presses
Hydroponic Greenhouse
Stolen War Booty Vault
Sub-Pen
Boiler Room
Showers
Surgery
V3 Missile Silo
Superhero Holding/Study/Disection Cells

I just got done watching "Where Eagles Dare," so wherever your base is it should be underneath a castle on top of a mountain accessable only via cable car. :D
And the castle will hide the "produced signs of habitation." ;)

I am liking what I am reading so far....
I have come up with a few ideas myself:
- A UFO research Lab
- A war room/Conference Room
- Several Offices
-
A "containment unit" of strong cells where the "experiments" and alien creatures are held.
Air filtration plant
Suspended animation unit where the the Fuhrer and his close "advisers" and guards can await the Fourth Reich
Flying Saucer hangar
-
Toilets.
(or are they included in "Lab working on cheap and durable synthetic rubber and cheap fuel substitute")?
-
Hitler's brain in a jar? :P
-
Hitler's brain in a jar? :P
rooms of brains in jars !
-
Germans :D
-
The BNP
-
- rooms for occult rituals
- cloning lab to create puppets of other countries' leaders
-
- Maternity unit for the infant clones of other people's leaders/"Brazilian" boys/baby supersoldiers.
- Brewery, bakery and pretzel factory
- Dimly-lit cabaret or *ahem* night club for off-duty shenanigans

A bar with a stage to listen Lili Marlene song during long boring evenings in winter.

What would YOU expect to find in a Secret German Underground Bunker?
I really want to say Secret Germans ;D
But seriously I think a Cryogenic Tank or two would not look out of place. Maybe a Morgue / Butchers block where autopsies are done.
-
Lots of death traps... oh yes and also a contol panel with a Big Red Button saying SELF DISTRUCT on it! No mad lab is complete without one.lol

I am really liking everyones ideas. Even the weird and wacky ones. Some of these can be toned down (if needed) to make them actually useable. There was a couple that even made me laugh and these are good too.
-
Definitely, a situation room. A gym for keeping fit underground. [Without day/night, time becomes sort of meaningless.]

Somebody already mentioned "a vault full of booty." :D
-
Stolen(collected) anticquities. Labs for every thing from alien technology to occult research. Doorways or passages that have been hastily sealed up. Who knows what awaits on the other side. The History Channel has several really good programs about what has actually been found in these bunkers.
-
An escape tunnel (the official one with a door and sign saying "emergency exit"), a secret escape tunnel (probably hidden behind a bookcase oe filing cabinet and for use of senior staff/scientist only), and the "secret tunnel nobody knows about but we found it on these archaeological reports on the castle, it dates back to the 13th/10th/4th century and probably opens into the drain/chimney/back of the Fuhrer's wardrobe" (delete as appropriate).
Some kind of office shredded or incinerator for destroying 85% of secret documents just before you get to them (but obviously not the one really vital piece of paper).
Filing cabinets full of mundane reports, petty cash receipts, and old memos.
A room with a large organ so that a crazed musician can play stirring/eerie music.
A hospital, probably with connecting doors to the research laboratories so that patients can be whisked away for experimentation or so that the crazed creations can escape and wreak havoc amongst the patients.
Lots of posters on the walls. And official signs. No smoking, emergency exit, etc.

Well the totally unexpected, so the spainish inquisition?
-
Everything we've seen in Escape and Return to Castle Wolfenstein. ;) (So occult, alien, teutonic ghouls and wraiths, arks of various covenants, zombies, mecha, scientists, slaves, body parts, doomsday devices.
These bits of scenery I painted up for GrindHouse and Fenris games:

Ok everyone, The Commander's done it already, we can't compete. Pack up and go home. ;)

No, we've got to stay in character to this thread. We hitch a ride on a gondola and we storm his bunker!
-
A large, complicated laboratory apparatus surrounding a visible cabbage, which is clearly a central part of the device. Any captured scientist is extremely reluctant to explain the device, or the existence of the cabbage.
:)
(Obviously, this is an unstable prototype, as later researchers will discover that a watermelon is a far more effective component.)
-
-A sub pen, leading into an underwater section of the Rhein (or other body of water)?
-a Large hall for assemblies/speeches/oktoberfests?
-experimental hydroponic gardens?
-some very confused Morlocks that just dug in through a bunker wall?
-a post office, containing, among others, several postcards from places like: Brazil, Antarctica and Tibet. Plus a hand-drawn one from Hastings (saying "The battle is a lot fiercer than in the history books. Wish you could be here too! Love, Dr E. Braun")?
-
- A lab for human engineering, with baskets containing left-over body parts. Pools of blood on the floor.
- Torture chamber with chains on the walls and gruesome machines. Blood splashes on the walls.
- Dinner salon with long tables (bier halle!).
- Radio/com room
- Storage rooms for alien artifacts and mythological relics
- Generator room
- Prison cells
- Kitchen
- Sleeping quarter
- Armory
- Elevators
-
Judging by my last visit to a secret German bunker I would expect to see a selection of unknown brands, a rather dubious slection of packaged meat, cheap toilet paper, cheapish Sekt and oddly enough diving flippers and reasonably priced portable camping toilets.
Vist your local Aldi outlet for more inspiration.
-
Lots of offices and file rooms for their data. ;)

What would YOU expect to find in a Secret German Underground Bunker?
British Commandos. :) (Not as secret as you thought, eh?) ::)
-
Down in the kitchen cellar: some eggs for breakfast?
-
Broom closet, lockers, break room. Maybe some chemical tanks and such.
-
an old phonograph playing Lili Marlene songs
-
The Wolfenstein 3 railway tunnel is a cool idea, and if you really want a realistic excuse, several of the Führerhauptquartiere (Führer Headquarters) complexes were built around railway tunnels or railway infrastructure in order to provide shelter for Hitler's train.
There needs to be lots of cool old elevators.
-
There's a German underground hospital on Jersey. If you could get the plans if might provide some info. There's diffinately plenty of pictures to reference.....
-
Ah, railway, good idea.
The german bunker complex inside a hill in St-Malo, Brittany (Fort de la Cité) has narrow gauge railway I think it was to carry the ammunition to the big guns.
-
I had this model about 30 years ago... ::)
The figures with it were crap, but the bunker itself was rather good.

I've often thought about remaking it, or something like it, in 28mm scale, so i shall follow this thread with interest 8)

30years ago?.... But that would make you.... Let's see 30 plus.....sorry that's too much maths for me!! :D
That would be a good game for BLAM 2012! ;) I had idea of building one on the side of a cliff. Using a 3x3 board you build a wee part of beach with the bunker hanging over the edge of the cliff like the one out of Saving Private Ryan, but instead of machine guns have some big naval busting artillery like The Guns of Naverone. The game could play out with the allies getting through the tunnels to blow up the guns.
-
Something like this?

Yes, but better.
Only kidding! ;) :D
Thats actually very impressive.
Andy, dont you go tempting me into another new period and project... Tempting as it is... ::)

I think I still have one at my mother's house.

You should contact Shaun at the Bunker - he used to have a layout for Navarone including a pair of rail guns in the bunker.
