Hi all:
A fellow gamer and me decided this summer that we were going to play a 40K campaing based in some rules appeared in the White Dwarf where the Space Marines were depicted as the novels and background show them... As real badasses where 10 men can stop thousands of enemies...
According to this concept, we decided that the right way to do this was to create some "real-scale" marines...
As the main objective is to have fun, we have modeled the sargeant to resembled Arnold and the other guys to look cool. The enemies are going to be orks (who else?) and we'll model also a suitable villain.
Of course, every movie needs a plot. As we are very original guys we have decided to save a damsel in distress... There must be a girl in every self-respecting blockbuster!! :D
To this end we have decided to model an Imperial female Governor using non-GW models. In another awesome display of originality, she will be called Governor Elaine Marley :D
So there will be blood, dead aliens, big explosions, terrible villains, traps, invincible heroes and a daring heroine... This should be a success! :D
But enough ranting! As our camera is broken we cannot show the teaser trailer yet, but some pre-production pics...
Using some Terminator legs, we covered their legs to resemble standard power armour
(http://i53.tinypic.com/dq21lg.jpg)
This means that the torso needs some green stuff to make it fit on the legs
(http://i56.tinypic.com/x3tu0j.jpg)
More green stuffing and bit-box sacking led us to this Veteran Marine
(http://www.displacedminiatures.com/images/0.img.1316530253HeroeWIP1.jpg)
Whose shoulder pads were modelled

Ending in this

The sargeant torso was sculpted:
And put on a suitable, imposing pose
(http://i56.tinypic.com/ieqb7q.jpg)
The head was "tuned" to resemble Arnie ;)
And finally, everything joined:
Including a massive chainsword...
Here finished
(http://www.displacedminiatures.com/images/1.img.1317975548SargeWIP3b.jpg)
Backpacks were also tuned, mixing two separate standard backpacks
(http://i56.tinypic.com/t0l37n.jpg)
And this led us to a shooting marine
(http://www.displacedminiatures.com/images/3.img.1317975548Marine1WIP2a.jpg)
A missile launcher marine
(http://www.displacedminiatures.com/images/4.img.1317975548Marine2WIP1a.jpg)
(the standard missile launcher was tiny in hands of these monsters, so it needed an "upgrade")
And finally another marine
(http://www.displacedminiatures.com/images/0.img.1317975646Marine3WIP1a.jpg)
The squad is finished here:
And here you can see a size comparison with a standard marine
(http://www.displacedminiatures.com/images/2.img.1317975646Comparative.jpg)
As you can see from their sculpted heraldry they are going to be Crimson Fists. We liked their background as almost-depleted-marines, ork-haters, spanish-roots... Painting has started and I will post additional pics soon.
In this badly taken picture, work on the armour has finished...

Sculpting of Elaine has started, and painting the details of the marines is next. More pictures soon, on a theatre near you ;)

Very good sculpting job, but man, that armour looks fantastic. Thanks for posting.
-
Lovely work! I'm not really a fan of the whole 'Space Marines are huge' background but I've seen a couple of 'true-scale' marines and this is a very interesting take on them. Sometimes the conversions are rather poor and other are very nice. I think you did a very good job of making them look like Space Marines, only larger, so well done! I'm looking forward to seeing the whole squad finished, and I love the Arnie Sergeant! 8)
-
Looks good, now you just need a 'true scale' terminator ;) Glad to see marines being the awesome bioengineered superheroes their ought to be.
-
Lovely work on those marines :D.
I gave this sort of projects a go myself but found the effort was too much after the first couple...so I gave up :(.
This is all I could manage (for a renegade group):

Dear god, but that terminator is HUGE! :o
-
Updates in the project. Two marines are ready pending insignia and bases. I have published a step by step guide at:
http://keyansark.blogspot.com/2011/10/marine-de-pelicula-paso-paso.html
You can see here one of the marines 95% finished. What do you think?

Fun looking stuff!
Glad to see someone wants to game with marines as they're meant to be.
-
Very nice work! 8)
-
Beautiful stuff!
-
True-scale marines - excellent!
-
Cracking work :-*
-
Well done! :)
-
woow! great paintjob! you did some great conversions!
-
Fantastic work. Great conversions and paint.
-
Thank you all...
As this is going to be a "movie" game, here are some "teasers" of the upcoming miniatures ;)

Great project, and something I think that a LOT of us have thought about, especially older 40K players that read a lot of the older and initial stories about how spacemarines where supposed to be.
-
What do you think?
I think that is a hell'va lot of work that came out GREAT!
:-* :-* :o :-* :-*

More advances...
Here are the first two movie marines ready
Brother Sancho:

Brother Diego:

Additional views can be seen on my blog:

I am specially fond of the final result in the "shrine-thingy" the second marine has on the backpack. And the eye lenses too...
I have also created a video of the step by step painting of Brother Sancho, here:

They look great and you deserve to be proud of the shrine thingy :)

The first part of the project is slowly arriving to its end. Two more marines here. All detail pics and additional angles can be found at:

Here is Brother Alonso, Titan Killer ;)
And Veteran Brother Tito Suberius. The time I have spent with this figure is great, as the modelling effort that my colleague did on it is simply amazing.

Spacemarines as they were meant to be. 8)

Seen several true scale projects, these are up there with the likes of Doghouse's work. Well done, very inspirational.
-
Final entry for the good guys with the Sergeant, Cayo Sarkio, alias "Arnie" :)

Now, we are working on Elaine, the governor; and "movie" rules for the campaign :)
-
lol, good guys... :P they don't look so friendly ;)
-
Really cool stuff, looking forward to seeing more, though I would have gone with a heavy bolter rather than the missle launcher, for that proper 80's action movie feel.

Us too, but we couldn't get how to do a "real-scale HB" that looked good... :)
-
A family picture, that I couldn't take the other day...

And a new, better, size comparison pic
(http://www.displacedminiatures.com/images/0.img.1319573332Comparison_Final.jpg)
Next: Elaine, the governor...
-
lol, much heavier and thougher! :) i like them a lot! =)
-
Nice job!! They really look imposing next to the regular size SM. I'm looking forward to the Bad guys and girl.
-
:o
Those are verrrry awesome.
My favorite is Veteran Brother Tito Suberius. :-*
Once again, fantastic moding and superb painting!
-
Now comes Elaine Marley, the governor to be rescued from the lascive (errr) claws of the Orks:
We used this miniature
(http://i43.tinypic.com/rkbf29.jpg)
Which is Cpt Kara Sloane, from Warmachine
(http://i39.tinypic.com/2vxoy85.jpg)
My colleague used green stuff and added a staff (from the Grey Knights box) and a servoskull (no skulls = no WH40K). He added an imperial eagle on the shoulder pad and some additional hair.
He used a palette of browns and purples inspired in the image of Elena Derosa, the governor in the videogame Dawn of War II
(http://i44.tinypic.com/2j31esp.jpg)
Additional pics soon.
-
Very nice miniature, but doesnt scream Governor to me, more lowly tech priest.
-
Great work on the marines! However, doesn't the larger governor model (who is not a space marine) defeat the purpose of making larger Space Marines to fit in with the fluff? If you make everything larger the orks are just going to look too small. Either way, the conversion looks great, well done!

The governor is a standard sized human. I'll post comparison pics asap
