I do not understand the need for "points" in a game where you have a Table of Organiztion and Equipment [TO&E]. In the US Army, I never bought anything with points. If my BN CO decided that my company [Oh lucky me!] was making the main assault, I got the fire support from the Bn's 4 deuce mortars.

Some people just like points. I do. If you don't, then just ignore them.

Points are a feature of competitive or balanced games, so both players bring an equal amount of force to the table.
Points allow people to play fairly even games without planning, you can just walk up at a club with an even amount of points and have a fairly even game.
That's the theory anyway.

Indeed! When I'm at home with friends we don't bother with points much, but at a club it's kinda needed. Unequal may be realistic, but this a fun game does not always make...
