Title: 15mm infantry suitable for Science-fiction gaming?
Post by: frontal assault on October 17, 2011, 05:41:08 PM
Basically I'm looking at going 15mm (I've only used 28mm figures so far) and I was hoping people could give me some pointers as to which miniatures are the best in terms of quality and variety.  So far I've looked at some of the Stargrunt range from Ground Zero Games and been quite impressed.  If possible, I'm looking for figures with classic German style helmets, figures with tabards, and figures with shotguns.

I've checked out the sites mentioned.  Critical Mass Games look a good choice as do Rebel Minis.  The former are actually quite a local firm and I saw them at last year's Phalanx wargames show demonstrating a very impressive battle in the snow.  While the two company's products aren't quite what I'm looking for, they should still come in pretty useful for what I need so thanks to those who replied.  Any other suggestions are still welcome though.

Narrowing the field a bit reduces what you could use, (re tabbards and stuff). However I think I have what you need here:

Eureka sci-fi german troopers.

Not great pics on the website but can speak from experience Eureka stuff's nicely cast.

A non WWWII colour scheme will bring them right up to date as do the LAW, sniper coms minis.

@Commander Vyper:  It's true that the tabard thing is narrowing it down a bit, but that's something conceived of in the context of a specific character so I don't expect to get lucky there.  I've just been checking out the Eureka Miniatures models and I'm impressed.  They'll definitely be useful for Germans and will tie in nicely with what I'm planning to use for them in 28mm.  Nice find mate.

I'm going to.  Basically I'll use Eureka for the Germans, Rebel for the French and Critical Mass Games for the British.

You may want to check out the British SAS [the ones with the berets]from Micropanzer (http://www.micropanzer.com/) - for your British of course! ;) They would work well with your theme.

I think 15mm is the way forward with all the lovely sculpts form so many companies out there now, way better than most 28mm part ranges, scale issues etc included with them

The main reason for going 15mm is cost and scale.  I intend to use 15mm for large-scale battles, while 28mm can be used for smaller actions and one on one fights.  Personally I'd say the two scales are even in terms of quality, with plenty of 28mm ranges, notably any GW products, being of the highest quality.

aside from the comment about GW Stuff I cannot agree more. I'm selling off more and more of my 28mm sci-fi and going 15, and 6 for BIG games. Also seriously looking at doing fantasy in 15mm too.
