Title: Mordheim Questions
Post by: thebinmann on 20 October 2011, 04:37:50 PM
I read through the rules quickly and just had a couple of qs, before I play.

1. Do you play the "shoot closet target first rule"?

2. Has starting exp. already been spent on the heroes?

3. Is there an ideal warband size?

4. Is the game as quick as it appears?

5. are there any important errata I should read?

6. I will play solo and wondered if you had any advice?

Thanks

Final q, is there a max number to each warband?

Thanks

1.  Yes
2.  Yes
3.  I try to have in an starter Warband all the heroes, because of the post-game phase.
Also to have some normal soldiers because of Moral checks etc.
4.  It can, depending on the players ;)
5.  I think it's all included in the Living Rulebook, if it's still existing.
6.  Never played solo, sorry
7.  Yes, Mercs 15, Chaos Cultist 15, Witchhunter 12, Sisters 15, Undead 15, Skaven 20.
    According to the printed rulebook.

AND, if you really want to get into Mordheim, try Tom's Boring Mordheim Forum:

TOM'S BORING MORDHEIM FORUM is undoubtedly your main stop if you want to go to the city of the damned.

And our DEAFNALA is a busy poster (and moderator) there too, so you know the community is very friendly an active.

There are lots of rules variations, add-ons, house-rules, etc., that you can check, and some of the forumites were involved with GW and the "official" rules, so their advice is ussually right spot on.

Hope that helps.

Second all the above comments.

Toms is THE best Mordheim site as far as I am concerned and the Mordheimer link is essential as it has so many warband lists, Q&A's, scenarios etc. You have to save it to your favourites.

Also, DeafNala is THE man for Mordheim. he knows his stuff and is always the man for an answer or link.
If you want to know about Mordheim, he's your man!

1. Do you play the "shoot closet target first rule"?

We do.  Remember that elevation negates this requirement.

2. Has starting exp. already been spent on the heroes?

Yup

3. Is there an ideal warband size?

Generally, the more the merrier.  The one rule to remember when building your warband is always take the full compliment of heroes you can (usually five) - even take the crappy youngbloods.

4. Is the game as quick as it appears?

It can go pretty quickly.  Especially playing solo.

5. are there any important errata I should read?

See below

6. I will play solo and wondered if you had any advice?

I often play solo - sometimes running bands against each other, sometimes playing solo scenarios.  It is fun, and a good way to experiment with different warbands.

Tom's is a great forum for Mordheim, and a couple of good other sites have been mentioned.  I would also recommend you check out the "Mordheim Resources" section (under Specialist Games) on GW's website - there you can download a revised version of the rulebook, the Empire in Flames supplement, the last rules review/FAQ/errata document, and a few other odds and ends.

Tabletop Geeks have collected a huge number of the old pdf files (Town Cryer issues, warbands, etc.).

My brother's website has a couple of scenarios designed for solo play:

(The first two in particular work well for solo play).

Thanks guys

@ MWeaver: any pointers for solo scenarios, I thought of the one with the frenzied mod defending their houses...
