Hello,
For some reason, which I cannot remember, I made a bet with a friend. If I succeed in putting together a 20mm Modern Afghanistan game in January he'll get me a bottle of single malt. I'm not very good with deadlines, so this should be a challenge. Although the prize makes it well worth it! I made a little schedule for myself to keep myself on track (and so far I'm succeeding :)).
At the moment I have the following miniatures finished (they still need to be Silflored, but I have to varnish them first):
USMC Command
(http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c30/JanSenten1982/Afghan004.jpg)
USMC Fireteam #1
(http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c30/JanSenten1982/Afghan005.jpg)
USMC Fireteam #2
(http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c30/JanSenten1982/Afghan006.jpg)
Afghan Herder with Goats
(http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c30/JanSenten1982/Afghan007.jpg)
Afghan Civilians
(http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c30/JanSenten1982/Afghan011.jpg)
I still have loads more to paint, so I hope to give an update every week or so. Also, the first week of November will be spent making terrain boards.
To be continued...
Cheers

Looks like you're well on your way!

Great start.
Look forward to see your progress,
in the days ahead.

Thanks!
The civilians are from Britannia Miniatures, which are now stocked by Grubby Tanks (http://www.grubbytanks.com/catalog/index.php). They are not yet in the online store, but if you send Andy a message he should be able to get them for you.
I have made a little list of all the things I need to paint/make before January and it's intimidating!
- 3 Abrams M1A1 tanks
- 6 Humvees
- 8 SOF Operators and their two vehicles
- About 70 Taliban Insurgents
- 2 SuperCobras
- 1 V-22 Osprey
- 3 LAV Recon vehicles
- About 20 more USMC Marines
- 3 Terrain boards
- Several Afghan compounds
- Dozens of small terrain elements (including bushes, a market place, more vehicles, rocks, crates etc.)
There are probably more things I need for the game, but I'll find that out along the way :)

That´s a great project, I like the way you painted the miniatures. I also have problems with deadlines, but as you already mentioned there´s a nice price at the finish. So keep up your good work (and show some pics please).

Great project what rules are you planning on using? Be good to see some terrain too.

@Golgotha: I'll be using a homebrewn set of skirmish rules. They need a little bit more tweaking before I can use them for Afghanistan though.
@Paul: Thanks for the link! I didn't know that website was already up and running!
@Lt. Hazel: Danke! More pics for you, finished these 15 minutes ago:

USMC Sniper Support:

I have finished all the USMC I have so far. I'll be ordering three more Fireteams from Elhiem very soon to use as Recon Marines and then I'll have all the marines I need.
To be continued...

Very nice indeed, those Britannia mini's are very nice and often have me scurrying off to buy only thwarted by how they're 20mm when I'm using 28mm. They also do a rather neat dicker too, I'm waiting for similar for 28mm -ho hum.
Best of luck in winning the challenge, by the looks of it you could make the icecubes now.
-
Bottle of Malt is in your pocket well done great work !!
-
Looking good. Nice sniper team. You don't often get the spotter.
-
What are the best sources for 20mm modern soldiers, please ?
-
That depends on what you're looking for. Some of my favourites are:
- Elhiem (http://elhiemfigures.com/)
- Mutineer Miniatures (http://www.mutineerminiatures.com/catalog/7)
- Britannia Miniatures (http://www.britannia-miniatures.com/catalog/index.php)
There is also Liberation Miniatures (http://www.rhmodels.com/), but they don't do online orders, so you'll have to go a bit old skool there.
Hope that this is any help to you.
Cheers

Sounds like some nice stuff from what I can read/see of the catalogue, shame the pics aren't labelled for scale.
Looking for some 28mm technicals, any thoughts?

For 28mm Technicals, try S&S Miniatures. I know they have them for 20mm, but they have a lot of stuff for 28mm as well. Otherwise 1/43 diecast cars would be a good option.

Splendid work, really love 20mm! These are fantastic miniatures and you've done them justice with good brushwork, I'll be keeping my eye on this.

Afghanistan Special Forces have been finished now as well, took slightly longer due to headache at work :(:

I'm thinking of chipping and weathering the vehicles, but I'll paint some Taliban first to get back on schedule.

Het loopt goed! Weathering and chipping would make the rides even better.
