As part of our Gear Kreig project are several Weird War initiatives. Before i get some personalities sculpted for the Gears, I had a wild inkling to do some Japanese Zombies. Several styles, so they work as fresh corpses from a recent battle, or as ghostly wanderers coming out of the jungle from battles past.
First up, I decided to get back to basics, ditch the computer and put ink to paper for some design sketches:

Next, get the designs sculpted, by the talented hands of Brother Vinni!

I think Brother Vinni did an excellent job! I highly recommend his sculpting talents.
Next on the list are these:

There will be some soldiers to fight them coming along as well. I'm having to much fun...

Real nice. I cannot wait to see the studio paint job on these. No are you going to make some civilians or am I going to have to convert them? Again great job from concept to completion.
Snitchy sends.

Oh dear they look so lovely. I may have to look at some I think.
Great work Brent and lovely sculpts.
Cheers,

Very nice,love to see people's artistry :)

Great! Are the compatible sizewise with Brigade Games and TAG Japanese?
-
Nice to see a new product developing. Love the bayonetted guy. :o
-
Very nice indeed.
How about an officer who committee hari-kari but the V-gas still did it's magic? (so either a full or short sword hanging out of his stomach, with his stomach erm...hanging out too? ;)

It's not a good idea then? ;)

Already in my little black sketch book of monsters, I haven't inked him in yet though. I'm also a big fan of the John Jenkins Designs - Communist Party Zombies. Hence bayonet guy, and toothache with his jaw tied on.
Also a big fan of the original Blood the Vampire OAV. I'm tempted to have a Saya in 1930's school uniform as well.

A few Unit 731 evil doctors or even a few that were bitten/exposed to the gas/toxin/virus/bacteria/radiation (delete zombie causation element as appropriate).
Also worth considering a wholesale move of this to the Weird world war area?
;)

Oh oh oh!!
Lets have a sprue of japanese zed heads too for those additional rising son conversions. Also maybe a couple of zombie GI's, downed USAF pilots turned even a failed kamikazi pilot condemed to a shameless undeath and the like?
(Remember I'm a bit of a weird world war nut as well as a zedhead! ;)).

Also way ahead of you. Brother Vinni is sculpting a 3 head sprue now to go along with the above.
Also, Company B's miniature ranges are : Japanese, US Marines, Australians in the Pacific, and Australian at Bardia (most of the ranges are sold exclusively with Brigade Games) so I'll probably get zombies sculpted for all the ranges :D
My take on these Zombies is that they are from some forest toxin, ancient curse, temple contagion, etc. So a combined Native islander, US and Japanese zombie horde would swarm anyone on the islands. I like the idea of small bands of US and Japanese troops having to fight together. I'll have Japanese anti zombie warriors (hence Saya) who have been dealing with threats like this for generations. For the US marines, it will be a surprise though, and they will need to pick up a few pointers. They do have flamethrowers...but folks can do as they will.
Downed pilots are interesting. I may have to do one.

Seems that way with the Gear Krieg line. I also have German rocket Fallschirmjager on the horizon, as well as a host of personalities to pilot the mechs and other paper panzers. I'm trying to stay as historical as possible on the non mech vehicles. But having two legged walkers sort of already blows that out o_o. Lot's more coming, as well as some joint projects with JTFM. I have the prototype Katchen APC as well that probably needs a good crew and squad to use it.

Zombie without a functioning lower jaw always says a winner. Indistinctly, to be sure, but still.

Check out the 68 comic book for more inspiration.A great series and about the same subject as your project too.

'nam but good inspiration for a few zeds definately.
-
I am really liking these zombies. I especially like the one with the bullet holes in his upper torso.
-
And here are the zombie heads!
I'll make this sprue available alone, so you can use them on whatever figures you choose.
Just a question, I'm thinking my next two figures would be generic Weird War commanders (no guns, no special harness, etc) that would have an uncanny resemblance to some famous folks. Would it be a good idea to have a three head sprue for each standard figure, reserving one of the heads as a zombie?
-
Very nice indeed, one in a cap would be great too you know, you should have five heads, that's the going sprue rate I hear? :) That way you'd have a nice variety to your japanese undead, (though the non helmeted westwind german zed heads would also suffice).
+1 on the commander idea.
-
Well, I still have my shirted Japanese Zombies. So two more zeds and another 3 head sprue there. That would be a total of 4 uniques and 6 heads!
If I follow my obsession with zombies through with the other figures I have planned, that would be an additional 8 zombie heads, 16 human heads and 8 more figures!
-
And that's a GOOD thing! ;D
Looking forward to these. Also, in keeping with the kami-kazi tradition and looking at SORT use for Japanese zombies, any chance of some zombie 'bombs' Westwind have german ones with dynamite sticks and landmines attached, any chance of some for the undead of the rising sun...would be in keeping with the potential fluff too?
;)

So.... how's this little project going then, been a while without update?

Waiting on the greens to arrive from the sculptor, along with some resin samples of each model. As soon as I get them, they'll go to my metal mold expert for casting.
Looking like sometime in January for release.

Why so serious?

Happy to see you!
What would folks preference be? a 4 pack? 2 packs? individuals?
Once these are produced, I'm thinking I need to do one or two more characters (offer?) and then it's time for the US Marine Zombies.
