Hi All,
Rackham are producing a new Scifi skirmish game ( release December) which looks pretty darn cool!
The initial release box-set looks awesome with ALL the Minis coming pre-painted and includes some VERY COOL Dreadnought type minis! :o
Have a look here under "AT43":
http://www.rackham.fr/
I've already pre-ordered a set!
Here's one of the minis included in the set:

The miniatures one can see on their website are the most uninteresting sci-fi miniatures I've ever seen.
-
After seeing the first previews I was really excited about this, but now I have the feeling it's just another boring Rackham game. And pre-painted minis, ewww :(
And what I couldn't find, how much is the set?
-
i like all the dreadnoughts
-
Yeah, I am not entirely sure about this game. Although I am sure it will build a large following quickly, I am not sure I want to invest in yet another sci-fi game... After collecting numerous 40k armies, I am not sure that this game or this company really has anything new to offer...
I am also not so sure about the Chinese labour used to paint the miniatures... I mean those GW British productions are bad enough, I can only imagine what the Chinese conditions are like...

I'm not sure either about the actual rules ( I've got other rule sets if they are too bad) but the box set contains:
Rulebook, 19 pre painted Ava and Therian miniatures, dice, terrain, all cards required for play, tape measure and gaming mat.
The UK recommended price is £50.00 for the set.
I don't think it's that bad when you consider something like a 40k box set which costs more. A single GW dreadnought in the UK costs about £30.00, so the set seems pretty good just for the miniatures.
Hopefully there will be more information closer to release.

I dont like prepainted stuff. I am talking about this with Loki a couple of weeks now. He has a good argument. Its for the people who dont have time to paint and want to play with painted miniatures. Maybe the rules are good too. Who knows. For me, I have so many other things on mind right now. This one sounds not interesting enough to me to buy it.

I agree. I don't particularly like prepainted minis as I prefer to paint them myself. It is a good point that some people can't paint or don't have the time. This game is meant to be playable out of the box with minimum effort from the player.
Even though the minis are prepainted i will probably paint them myself!
I just think the game looks interesting and I quite like the "French" style minis ( I've got other Rackham miniatures)

I actually find myself very tempted by the box. I love painting but I really don't mind playing with pre-painted miniatures. One thing though, I love painting figures, but a bit less so mounts like horses, and a bit less so vehicles. And so the mechs are one of the most attractive things for me in this set.
I won't be suprised if they can hold the producting models to this quality of painting because I have seen it before in Japanese products. And if they can, its by far good enough for me.
And I just love that container box!
I was thinking a bit about pre-painted plastics, and as a person who in into miniatures mainly because I love to paint them, I thought its a bit odd that I like them! Esp if they look cool! I remember being giddy with excitment when I got my clear plastic heroclix! (the human torch) I immediately pried it off the plastic attachment for its clix base and stuck them onto smaller ones and placed them next to my re-painted super-heroes in my display cabinet.

White Star Commando Patrol. I really like the sculpts, they're better than Mongoose Starship Troopers

Those are nice sculpts. Make me want to pick up some sci fi miniatures to go up against them.
-
I pre-ordered mine too!
I much prefer to paint, but I figure I can ALWAYS repaint them if I'd like. Just like repainting a Heroclix!
-
reminds me on starship troopers
-
I love the powered armours, which are SOOO SF3D, and the cute stumpie mech is a must-have, but only if they´ll become available singly and preferably unpainted...
Game system didn´t seem to be all the rage, from what I saw at Essen.

Just receieved my AT 43 box set.
First impressions............VERY GOOD!
The painting on the minis is at a reasonable table standard ( I've seen a lot worse). I will probably tweak them a little ( detailing) but they're ok out of the box.
I've had a quick scan of the rules, they look ok. Seem to be an aweful lot of stats on the stats cards and as this is the basic set the rules are pretty simple looking.
Still I can always use the minis for something else , which was my first idea anyway!

I think there were a few shipping issues, as I was supposed to get mine on the 1st aswell!
Oh well, better late than never!

Well, I did receive a letter from the shop owner, saying that he can no longer guarantee Christmas delivery.....He was getting pretty antsy too, as I think he sold a TON of pre-orders...
BUT then yesterday, got another e-mail and said everything had been sorted out, and will be shipped.....even gave me a tracking number.
Yay!
Of course, I will still have to wait until Christmas to look at the stuff...I told my wife it would be a great Christmas gift, and she is holding me to it!
-
Excellent!
I'm really bad at waiting for stuff, but the set is really quite good.
I've had another look at the rules and they seem OK. They are sort of a lite version which will be expanded on with future releases. If you take the rule aspect away I think the set is well worth it just for the minis.
Interestingly enough there are already a few people out there doing conversions on the minis. I haven't done it yet but the FireToad ( looks like a dreddnought) and the Wraith Golum ( The Big alien walker thing) can be opened, cutting along the seams where they are glued, to reveal detailed interiors!!!!
Here's an example on a German Forum:

Very impressive!

That is amazing. Who'd have thought they'd put detail inside! Very impressive....
A funny thing on that site, is that although they are speaking German, all the signatures are in English!?! Odd.
Did you notice the link to the Aurora Drop Ship later on that page?

That´s because they´re all unimaginative fanboys, and Duncan Idaho is their king... ;)

For the sake of symmetry, maybe the English speakers could have signatures in German.

Good one! Nice pulp german, too.*
*: Now, if you want correct grammar: "Ich wünschte, ich wäre Deutscher. Ich würde mehr malen. Gott wünscht es." But that´s already 66% of sentences that are correct, so Daumen hoch!
Now, seriously: I have a petty beef with that Duncan Idaho fellow, mainly because he appears to be as anally retentive with the boons of AT-43 (faithfully ignoring the drawbacks) as are most GW fanboys... judging from some 97% of his postings, so I may be wrong. :D
-
My Inner German made me fix the grammar. I'll just have to throw in some random Achtung!s from time to time to restore the pulp balance.
-
Jawoll, Kamerad! :D You can´t go wrong with the occasional "Achtung", or two, or three... but never more than three, then you go Japanese in NO time.

Mein Gott! German is more complex than I suspected... :D

Well, why do you think we failed in conquering the world twice in the last 100 years?!? We couldn´t tell our subordinates precisely what to do! :D

So wrong. We could, and did, tell our sunbordinates very VERY precisely what they were to do. Alas (or not), the German language being what it is, by the time these detailed instructions were formulated to German standards, the wars had been over for two weeks...

Some french players are disappointed as the rules are only a very light version. In 2 hours you can play the 6 scenarios.
But what about the full rulebook, nobody knows!

I've a question about the rules if anyone knows....
It says you can do a combat move, then shoot...or vice versa (shoot then move) but can you do 1/2 your combat move, SHOOT, then use the last half of your move to get back behind cover?
I was playing the 1st scenario with my daughter, and she used this tactic, quite effectively to blow up my Golgoth without fear of retaliation!
-
Reading the rules (what there are of them!), I don't think you can half move ,shoot, then move again. The rules don't appear that flexible!
I would use that as a house rule as it makes sense.
Personally I would have the distance moved seperate from other actions as it is more fluid. As these are the "BASIC" rules I would say you can move and shoot or shoot and move, but not break down the movement.
But, Hey it's your game so if everyone agrees it seems ok!

Well, I am sure my daughter would agree, since it was her best tactic!!
I think if I were to make a house rule to go with it, I'd allow it if the combat move value was halved before you used it.....So if you are normally allowed 20 cm, a 'shoot and dodge' move would only allow a total of 10cm....Move 5, get off a shot, move 5 back to cover.
I'm actually pretty new to gaming anyhow....I'm familar with several different rule sets, but have really never really played much at all....
