Been working on this project for a little while (a little while longer than I'd like to be honest!) but I finally have a substantial amount painted so decided I'd post some pictures on here in the hope that this would keep up my momentum. I'm painting up a selection of figures to represent a Latin American country with the stereotypical history and problems but I'm basically aiming at a small-ish skirmish game with accompanying scenery and terrain. The scope for this is obviously quite big but so far I'm painting government troops and rebels.
Government Troops

Scenery
A picture with some scenery I've made:

Made more scenery since then but forgot to bring it to uni with me, so you only get the one picture! (Although I'm heading to the pet shop tomorrow to buy stuff to make more)
Written a basic back story for the country but it still has some kinks to iron out. Hopefully will keep posting more pictures as I paint more and will post the country's "history" when I'm done with that too. Comments are always appreciated!

A good start with your figures.
Any rebels to show yet?

Looking forward to seeing more.
You are off the a great start.
May I ask where the figures are from?

Very nice!
Those are all Hicks sculpts from Mongrel (Newline)?

Good spot! They are indeed, and I think they have just released or re-released some more miniatures. Seems like a couple of their rangers are a little bigger than when I last looked, (which probably means my bank account is going to take a hit)
The three with AKs were supposed to be rebels, however I've just realised I've painted them in the exact same way as the government troops. So I think I shall have to go back and re-paint a few items of their clothing.

Looks like a good start to your project! :D
Newline only display what they have stock of, so the Mongrel range shrinks and grows according to availability.
You could use the Israeli figures too, as a number of Latin American countries bought their kit, including the Galil and their helmet... Honduras springs immediately to mind, but there were others. Obviously the 'US' and 'Pakistani' figures too.
I have some of all of them, but I've been far slower painting them and they are beginning to verbally insult my manhood from the draw I keep them in. :?

Wonderful stuff! I always intended on getting some of those figures for my own Central American project. You've done a great job on them, I look forward to seeing more.

Thanks a lot for the kind words! Think I'll be placing an order with Mongrel tomorrow, which hopefully means there'll be more photos soon!
