The Diary of Johnathan Harker:
"All around me wolves began to howl"

"Then a Caleche with four horses drove up behind me. The horses were coal black and splendid animals. They were driven by a tall man with a long brown beard and a great black hat, which seemed to hide his face from me.I could only see the gleam of a pair of very bright eyes, which seemed red in the lamplight."
"The time seemed interminable as we swept on our way, now almost in complete darkness, for the rolling clouds obscured the moon. We kept on ascending. Suddenly I became conscious of the fact that the driver was in the act of pulling up the horses in the courtyard of a vast ruined castle, from whose tall black windows came no ray of light and whose broken battlements showed a jagged line against the moonlit sky."

"I stood close to a great door, old and studded with large iron nails, and set in a projecting doorway of massive stone."
"I heard a heavy step approaching from behind the door and saw through the chinks the gleam of a coming light. Then there was the sound of rattling chains and the clanking of massive bolts drawn back. A key was turned with the loud grating noise of long disuse, and the great door swung back"
"Within stood a tall old man, clean shaven save for a long white moustache. He motioned me in with a courtley gesture saying in excellent English, but with a strange intonation:- Welcome to my house! Enter freely and of your own will!"
He made no motion of stepping to meet me, but stood like a statue, as though his gesture of welcome had fixed him into stone." "Count Dracula?" I enquired"
"I am Dracula... And I bid you welcome... Mr Harker... to my house."
Next week ... The Vampire Brides :)

VERY nice indeed!
Did You use a warhammer fortress for the castle?
-
Malamute, we have to play with these toys, they are gorgeous
-
Fantastic. When will you do a stop-motion animation of this? 8) :)
-
V nice camera work !
-
Another great collection of photos. The one looking up at the castle is particularly atmospheric!
This should fill the gap left by the Prof suspending his "Africa every day" thread :)
-
I'm enjoying this more than the film. No Keanu Reeves and his silly accent!
Top job Malamute!
-
Great, yet again! :o
Where's the coach from?

Westwind Productions - Gothic Horror Vampire Wars- Dracula's carriage.
Vikotnik- Yes its A GW Mighty Fortress with a number of changes and additions. :)
Lowtardog - You are most welcome to come and have a game anytime you like :)
-
Oh how I seeth with envy Malamute!!! Just love this stuff. The upward shot of the castle is really imposing and dramatic.
-
Excellent work Nick, looking forward to more
-
Great job, Malamute! Very atmospheric...
-
I feel I don't give you enough praise, Malamute. You seem to have picked up where the Professor took a hiatus. Just as with him you are spewing forth such a mass of wonderfulness that it is hard to keep up.
-
Am I right in thinking that GW have released various products under the name of "Mighty Fortress?" I have two such sets, and they look nothing remotely like this.
Oh, forgot to say: Absolutely bloody brilliant.
-
I can see how M. has customized the MF with the odd Reaper gargoyles and whatnots here and there.
Zvezda makes a cheaper, somewhat smaller but infinitely more customizeable castle for the intrepid scenery builder who dares to pick up the glove. It has a multitude of wall sections, living quarters, windows, doors towers both round and square.
-
Truly inspiring, Malamute.
GW's older Mighty Fortress is made out of foam as I recall and not nearly as nice as the current model. This has me scouring e-bay for fortress kits on the cheap.

Thanks for all the kind comments folks, they are keeping me very inspired and motivated to keep this going right until the final credits roll :)
The model was a GW castle originally although it has gone through many modifications. I cut up the walls to make them different lengths, joined two towers together to form the tallest one. Made a keep with two wall sections put back to back and added loads of additional features like windows, doors, balconies, gargoyles, statues etc and each tower has a roof which are removable. There are some additional rooms added to make it more interesting.
Here is another photo showing some of the detail.(I am saving a couple more to add in later chapters!) :)

Right. This is the one I have two of:
Doesn't look quite as nice, but comes in handy. Besides, one was given to me as a prezzie by my good pal Chronoglide, and the other was picked up cheap on eBay. So I'm pretty happy about having them.
-
Ohh, I have never seen one of those before. I picked up mine about 5 years ago.I think its the version that is currently available, Its hard plastic and comes in kit form. I was lucky and got it second hand, so it was very cheap compared to the shop price. I dread to think how much they are to buy in the shops.
-
It's quite flexible, especially when you have two sets, as it is modular. You can put all the bits wherever you like, or just make a Hadrian's wall straight across the table for some Roman/Barbarian fun.
It dates back to the late 80s, around about the time of first edition 40k, and is made of a kind of polystyrene, similar to the sort that electrical goods come packed in (but unlike that stuff, it will take spray paint without dissolving).
I like it, but I like yours more.
Edit: I used it in my Mighty Joe Kong game for the natives' massive wall:

So far that is the only outing it has had. Shame really, I ought to do something else with it some time.

I like how there are two flags flying over the fortress. The foreground towers are ruled by Duke Schlegenhosen and the background towers by Duke Donnerfrosch. There's a big line drawn down the middle of the fort, like "I Love Lucy," that their retainers are not allowed to cross.
-
Or that episode of "Steptoe and Son" where they divide the house in half, for us from Blighty.
I guess there are only so many sitcom plots possible. :)

Poly, if you put two wall section back to back (lucky swine you have two sets  ) it makes a good "Great wall of China" not sure if you do back of beyond but you might be able to work it in :)
-
it's really great! the castle, the wolfs, the forest, even the count with a decent haircut! :)
-
@ Plynkes: Imagine someone who is laughing his head off about the name 'Denture' stumbling across Your site!

excellent followup, Dracula's hearse looks amazing! And the camera closeups truly ass a cinematic feels. My favorite element has to be the sunken door to the interior!

Hear, hear. I am in Oregon (USA), and have some trouble finding anyone who wishes to do this sort of thing - unless they are civil war enthusiasts. And that is *all* they want to do. Hard enough just to get a game of Necromunda or Mordheim in.
