Here are a few of the pictures I took of the Space:1999 game I ran at Rock-Con this year. The game went pretty well. The players had fun and I was pleased enough to continue creating scenarios.
A spaceship has crashed into the surface of the moon. Commander Koenig sends three teams to investigate the crash site looking for survivors and/or supplies. The first scene takes place at the crash site. The bulk of the ship is nowhere to be found.
Here we see the teams searching the clumps of wreckage for survivors, and clues.
One team stumbles on a hovering drone hidden under some wreckage. It's whirring blades could easily tear a spacesuit.
After finding some strange radiation readings reflecting off two different pieces of wreckage, our heroes have found their way down into the ship, buried deep beneath the lunar surface.
There appear to be hover drones down here too.
One member of the team meets a bizarre alien beast. As he approaches it, the thing whines pitifully and runs away.
Someone tripped a switch. This activates a laser barrier across the doorway, trapping half the party in the room with the stone rhinoceros. (It's hard to see the black stone rhino against the black floor. Trust me, there's a stone rhino in the picture.)
It turns out there are human troopers in the spaceship as well. They don't seem any more friendly then the drones do.
From this picture you can see the cards at the edge of the board. I used Savage Worlds as the system, which uses playing cards for initiative. There's also a poker chip on the board. These are usually used for "Bennys" in the game. I've started using the red chips to mark the locations where NPCs suffer gory deaths. It doesn't happen that often in Space:1999, but you should see the battlefield after the Colonial Marines come through. Savage Worlds is my current favorite rules for running miniatures and RPGs. I tend to find one favorite rules system and run it into the ground.

And that's about it for pictures. I took a few more, but I just realized I didn't take any of the big bad guys from the end of the story. Maybe I'll take some more soon, and add them to this thread. This is the first time I've posted photos to this forum, so I hope they come out right.

Well, since you asked...

These were from the play test at my home. (Note the different table cloth and darker lunar surface.) There was no way I was taking my Product Enterprises Eagles to a gaming convention. Besides they aren't the right scale. The 1/48th scale one sits on the mantle place, and it ain't coming down any time soon. My wife is so understanding.

Now that is Space 1999 :D
-
Very nice. Where did you get the space suit clad minis from ? Is Marty Landau in there? ;)

Brilliant!

Where did the little buggies come from?

Where did the little buggies come from?
That. ;)
Although I'm guessing they came with the Eagles? :(

Considering the sheer number of Eagles on your mantle....
Yes, yes she is.
:D

Where did the little buggies come from?
My buddy MPENNOCK made them for me. He has them available in his Shapeways store. Just search under Arctic Skunk. You'll find many, many goodies there. (Hey Mike, Is that a nice enough plug? I waited for someone to ask and everything.)

The spacesuits are from Crooked Dice. I had to make a chest unit for the girl, since someone decided that girls don't need oxygen in their spacesuits. Actually I think it had something to do with showing off her figure. Now if I can just get them to make some space station personnel wearing bell bottom pants. Oh, and if you want that actor in a space suit, check out the heads of the scientist set.

:D :D much happiness and win is in your, love them.
-
in your models, that will teach me to not preview. :-[ lol ;D

If I might oblige :)

Apologies on Melody not having a chest unit - but she has no helmet either :)

I noticed that. That's why half the astronauts on the lunar surface have their helmet visors up. I need to replace those when I get the chance. Fortunately no one seemed to mind in either of the games.

Not a problem. Building the chest units took almost no time. It's just great to have three different poses to work with. If there were only two poses I'd have a hard time avoiding the chorus line effect when the teams are lined up.

great stuff... will have to get some buggies...
where are the spaceship walls from? they look perfect for something I want to do...

Michka works third shift and is undoubtedly asleep right now, so I'll take the liberty of answering for him. The walls for the spaceship are free standing and can be arranged as necessary for the game (the floor is a piece of pressboard painted black). He scratch built them out of plastic sheet and (I believe) matte board.
-
that's a too much fiddly repetativeness for me... lol

Cool looking table I need to get some of these Astronauts! They look ace

Thanks for the great responses. I'm really excited to see one of my projects get to this stage. Gives me hope that the other projects might actually get finished.

Great looking table.
Cool idea for a game.
Could you please give a run down on how you made the terrain?

Making the terrain was rather simple. For the spaceship interior, each wall is 2 inches tall, cut out of plasticard. The raised floors are cut out of thicker plasticard with another sheet of plasticard added for thickness. Triangles were cut out using a 60 degree triangle so they were roughly 2 inches tall from point to base. Those were added to the walls. Then another strip of plastic was glued on top of the triangle straight up and down. Each room was made separately. This was so they would stand by themselves, and they would store compactly. All the angles were either 60 degree or 90 degree. I did a quick sketch, (OK, it wasn't quick.) to see if my layout would work on paper. It did. That's when I started cutting plastic. Finish this off with way too many spray cans of Testors white paint. By the time you're high on paint fumes and have added thumbprints to almost every room you're probably done. Either that or it's time to pack up for the con. That's what I did.
For the lunar surface I found a bag of GW craters. Glued two onto the 2' by 2' board. Then I added ballast around the edges of the craters. This was followed by many, many coats of texture spray. It's that stuff they sell at craft stores that makes lamps look like they're made of rock. Why anyone wants a lamp to look like rock I'll never know. Then again, who would want a 2' by 2' simulation of the moon's surface? Who am I to judge. Fiunally you spray the whole thing in several different colors of gray and you're done.

any chance of a pic of the walls not in game (just lined up) to get a better idea of how you've planned each bit...

We've been trying to fit some armed Astros into the schedule too. Hopefully next year!

Hello,
that is a great looking game, well chosen and painted models and lovely terrain that works really well together.
The drones are great, are they your own creation? I would love to see a close up shot of one if you have the picture.
Do you have any other ideas for board / games?
Thanks for posting.

Thanks for all the interest. I did some quick photos this morning. (Don't tell anyone I use to be a professional photographer. You wouldn't be able to tell from my recent miniatures pictures.) I'll try to explain some stuff as I go along.
These are the Hard Contact Drones, aka Close Combat drones. They are armed with spinney blades. These and the other drones are Superfigs G.U.A.R.D Drones. I forget which is which.
These are the Soft Contact Drones, aka Ranged Combat drones. Instead of spinney blades they have lasers.
These are the human troops, and yes, they are painted as Federation Troopers from Blake's 7. They come from C-P Models. I just love these miniatures. Time to start working on a Blake's 7 game.
These are the wreckage markers from the first scene. One is turned over so you can see the encounter number written on the bottom. I use an encounter markers system that I stole from .45 Adventures in most of my miniatures games. These were specially made for this scenario, but I'm sure they will find new and exciting uses in the future.
These are some special guest stars from the second scene. The Brain in the Bio-Chamber was the leader of the human faction on the ship. He's a RAFM figure. The purple orb on the right was the leader of the drone faction on the ship. He's an Otherworlds Eye of Terror that has only one eye stalk attached. (Now that this game is done I need to finish painting the other nine stalks.) Slug-Eat-Your-Face in the middle was there for comedy relief. I don't know who makes him, as I got my buddy to get me one when he got his.
More photos to come...

Here we have our heroes of the piece. All of them are Crooked Dice miniatures, as has been stated before. I just read that some armed astronauts are in the works too. I can't wait. I made a couple of Stun Guns for these guys but I haven't figured out how to make the laser bazooka yet. Now I might not have to.
Here are four Moon Buggies. The one on the right is actually a One Man Buggy. These all come from the Arctic Skunk Shapeways store. Mike gets a lot of work from me.
Finally we have some miniatures that didn't make it into the game. These are Comm-Towers from Moonbase Alpha. You can find them in almost any room and corridor of Moonbase Alpha. I haven't finished the Main Mission set yet, but at least I have comm-Towers for when I do. These are also from Arctic Skunk.
In the background of most of these photos are some closer-up shots of the spaceship interior walls. I'd like to get some better shots but the white walls just will not agree with the on-camera flash. I'll try again later.

Really great!!
I'll see if I can convince Graeme into us producing a heavy weapon (George Cole style) Astro too :)

I am going to pick up some of those communications posts. I have been meaning to scratch build some for ages now, but never go around to it.
If I may ask, what material did you print them off in? Strong White Flexible?
I have been following a shapeways horror story thread over on Starship Combat News, so I might be having second thoughts.

I had them printed in White Strong and Flexible. They came out with a pretty rough surface, but once you put some paint on them they look good. I find that the WSF surfaces work great for vehicle sized stuff, and good enough for things about this size. I will give you one warning about these. Mike made the Comm-Towers hollow, to save money. There's a vent hole on the bottom. One of the three had a ton of white plastic powder inside it that would spill out every time you set the thing down. I was getting really sick of cleaning this up, till I remembered to just fill the hole with putty. Such a simple solution for an annoying problem.
