Looking at starting a classic Traveller campaign amongst my group of aging fellow geeks, but would like to use more modern 25mm/28mm SF figures rather than the venerable old 15mm Traveller figures.
Can some kind souls point me to the best and appropriate SF figures suitable for use as as player characters? eg Ships crew, adventurers etc.
Many thanks

Cool to meet a fellow Traveller player looking for minis. You can see what I've done so far with my Battledress conversions here http://4sparta.blogspot.com/
Enjoy!

Sorry, forgot to mention for you to go to the October archives to see the progress of the models. Also be sure to scroll down to the bottom to see them in the gallery.

Now they are nice conversions!
Just need a Zhodani platoon to oppose them :)

I'm going to use Denizen's not-Zhodani once I get around to buying them.
And thanks! Glad you like them. They are Reaper NOVA Corp conversions.

They might be a bit too big, but Reaper do some here (http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/Sci-Fi/latest)
Hasslefree and Heresy also produce "sensible" SF figures, including not-Firefly crew (Heresy)
While not strictly Traveller, ZombieSmith (http://www.zombiesmith.com/collections/a7-d12-airlock-7-docking-lvl-12) do some interesting aliens that I always thought would look at home in an alien catina :)

Black Hat miniatures Cobalt have some cracking aliens and space farers whhich would be ideal

Ground Zero Games, and Denizen both have useful figures in 25mm scale.
Sadly, neither has released any new stuff in this scale, in quite some time, despite my repeated requests for "Jumbo Prawns" for District 9. Sadly, the latter are only available in 15mm/18mm scale from GZG, who calls them Crusties.

Seems 15 mm is once again popular for SF - if I was going into SF I think I would have to consider 15 mm for small battle games very seriously (I'm a 1:6K historical ship, 1:600 historical AFV/big battle, 25/28 mm historical/VSF skirmish and Fantasy battle guy currently,) because there seems to be so many advantages for playing (never painted 15 mm) the games.
Gracias,
Glenn

I think 25mm/28mm is great for doing Traveller. Below are my Ground Zero Games UNSC troops painted as Imperial Marines:

Here are those Denizen Venturans that make great Zhondai stands-in:

And here are some GZG Neu Swabian infantry that would work great for combat armor or battle dress wearing troops. I really like their weapons:

I love the GZG and Denizen stuff, just a pity they're not expanding the ranges. They have a great 'hard' sci-fi sort of feel making them perfect for this sort of setting.

You're a star, I've been trying to remember where the Cobalt range ended up, loads of great Travelleresque stuff there. Cheers.

cobalt is available from http://www.blackhat.co.uk

Cobalt range has great Vargr stand ins called Ar-Men. Bronze Age just released some Wolf sci-fi Vargr-esque minis. I have to finish my FGMP-15 converted Marines before I get those. At least that's what I keep telling myself...

A great list of offerings, thanks!
I have found enough from various links (many provided) to get a small and varied collection of adventurers. For the others at this stage, I have a box full of Warzone? figs that will be good stand ins.
I have found figures armed with more futuristic weapons. TL 11-12 adventurers armed with revolvers did not sit too well with me way back in the late 70's and now.
Love to keep the discussion running though, I am sure there is still plenty out there
