Title: MAIWAND (big pictures)
Post by: ONIRIA on 14 December 2011, 05:20:35 PM
Hi all

For a starter and for those of you who haven't seen it, here's my latest work in 28mm, depicting the last stand of the 66th (the last eleven).

Most of the figures are from the Perry Sudan range, with the according conversión work done to represent as accurate as posible the uniform worn by the 66th Berkshires during that desastrous event.  The dog (Bobby) is from scratch as I didn’t seem to find  “the one”  in the comercial market.

Here a a bunch of pics (big ones) so you can see all the  brush strokes and the way the work. For those of you who don’t like such big screeners, just resize at will.

And, as an extra,  I've also added some WIP pictures of the planning and initial works on the figures ( you'll see that some of them didn't make it) plus the Bobbie "green".

Hope you enjoy it.

Totally brilliant!!!! One of the best Colonial vignettes I have ever seen. And yes, the uniform is perfect (am just reading a book about the battle...)

Inspiring stuff!!

Hi all

Thanks a lot for the very warm welcome, and for your encouraging comments. They are really valuable for me.

Drsicoles: Yes, obviously that painting was the mayor source of inspiration. I got stunned when I saw it and then started to work in the  whole idea.

Syrinx0: The idea was to include "the last eleven" + bobbie, so all of them couldn't fit. I usually work on  more  figures thatn the ones that will finally go into the piece. Then during the setting and placing of the figures some don't make it. I usually take lots of pictures and check which one looks better or interacts better in the scene. It's like a movie "casting".  The good thing is that white metal or plastic actors, that don't make it, don't complaint.  :D

saludetes

Stunning as always.

I just kills me to think of all that extra work when I have enough problems just getting them painted as is.

This is fantastic.  Reminds me of the articles from Airfix magazine where they recreated scenes from the Butler paintings of the Light Brigade using converted 1/32 Airfix figures.  Class!  :o
