Hi everybody,
This is my first post on the LAF.
I'm starting a project around the Ardennes '44. Here's my first unit.

Wow, very nice!!
-
Welcome aboard Thib-O.
What a great intro youve given us. But you do realise that you have made a rod for your own back and we now expect more of the same!! :D
-
Now you need some dogged and desperate American GIs to counter those young and fresh volk grenadiers.
Great stuff,
Brian

Woah, looking good! Very good indeed. Me and a friend are setting up a Ardennes force as well, and will propably work on it during the winter and spring, a project I am really looking forward to. I tested out some airbrushing yesterday, with whitewash over dunkelgelb, it turned out pretty nice actually. Ambush cammo and white wash mixed vehicles with a group of white/SS-Eichenlaubmuster do look great! :D
I would love to hear what colours you used for helmets and gear, and a few close ups would be most welcome as well.
By the way, welcome to the LAF and what a way to say hello! :D

The miniatures are SS units :-P

Very nice and looking forward in seeing more in the future.

Wow :o
I´m waiting for more!
-
Awesome :o . Looking great! Same for the terrain (well, what I can see)
-
It looks great!

Thanks for the motivating replies :)
Ambush cammo and white wash mixed vehicles with a group of white/SS-Eichenlaubmuster do look great! Cheesy
I'm planning to paint my next squad in oak leaf pattern too. Imo it's much more difficult than the pea dot pattern.
I would love to hear what colours you used for helmets and gear, and a few close ups would be most welcome as well.
Helmets are dark gray, almost black. It's highlighted with a mix of black/bleached bone (very warm gray).
Mittens/gloves and scarf are in catachan green.
Belts and magazine pouches are in mars black.
The coulors for the pea dot camo are : commando kaki, bleached bone and dark brown.
Hope this helps :)

Great looking start to the collection - both figures and terrain. As others have said, I'm looking forward to seeing more.

Superb

I really love your Secrets of the Third Reich stuff, so this is a good project to see!
-
What rules are you planning to use? We are using Rules of Engagement (Great Escape Games) wich are super nice, good rules, nice game play and some nice expansion rules are available. Great fun so far!
We will also use Nuts! by Two Hour Wargames for smaller commando raids and such, wich they seem to be perfect for. Its almost like a semi RPG wich suits us just fine. Just the fact that you can build your little squad around a makeshift group of a Panzer crew for instance is really cool.
-
Very nice! I have a winterised Coldstream Mechanised unit on the bench looking for some trouble....
-
Fantastic bud!!! :o
Do you have a board full of terrain or have you just started that also? The setting looks great!!
-
Thanks for the great replies :)

We have a few options, so far. Maybe Rules of Engagement, Crossfire, SotR or a home made rule system, or maybe something new. ::)

We do play SotR for more than a year in the same setting. You can see the table on the SotR forum:

That boards a thing of beauty! It's very hard to get the proper effect for a realistic snow scene but you have REALLY pulled that one off!!! :o :o
-
The board is gorgeous but the highlight for me is the colouring of the stonework in the church ruins. :o
-
Just checked out the SOTR board, beautiful stuff :-*
-
Your SotR stuff and table is really great, looks fantastic. When it comes to rules, I can warmly recomend the Rules of Engagement system, it has a good flow to the game mechanics and have enough of detail to make it interesting. You can upgrade your troops by swapping gear and weaponry and such, along with rather good lists of units. If you get the vehicle book to support it, it really yields a lot of gaming options, that and the fact that its very easy to change or alter to suit your tastes and or actuall level of historical knowledge (wich we of course have done :-P).

Thanks for the replies. :)
Here's a next unit with oakleaf pattern (well, I tried...)

Very nice camo!
-
Well, you tried...AND you succeeded!! More brilliance!
-
Very nice figures! The camo looks very good too! ;)
-
Excellent stuff! :o
-
Thib-0 that is some neato stuff right there especially those Thing models. I like the idea of using SOTR and AE-WW2 models it adds some variety. your painting skill is also very good Im stealin all your Ideas btw. I like your idea to use a couple different rulesets for different scenarios in your games.
-
Fantastic work as always Thib-O.
Great to see you posting here as well as on the Secrects forum.
Look forward to seeing more.
Cheers BF (Mr.C.)

Hi there,
It was a while ago since I posted something here on the LAF. The main cause was my new job that started a year ago... time flies. ::)
I'm also proud to announce you that we'll have our first Afterwork evening at the Bastogne War Museum friday 17th april from 17H00 until 21H00.
This will include guided visits from the museum and the Mardasson monument, free consultation of new WWII books around a glass of beer and of course we'll play a few games of Bolt Action based around the battle of the Bulge.
This will be an evening not to miss (well, there'll be more I presume) !
In the meantime, some themed pictures on my blog [url]http://thenutoncave.blogspot.be/2015/03/first-afterwork-at-bastogne-war-museum.html/url]:)
Cheers,
Thibo
ps : I tried to put pictures and URL, but it seems the links didn't work ???
