Yesterday we played our traditional pre Christmas game. This year it was the Texas Revolution using the Sharp Practice ruleset with my good friends Captain Moss Chops, Camp Dave and dread Pirate Will Morgan. Captain Moss Chops and Camp Dave played the Mexicans whilst Will and I played the Texians.
December 16th 1835, Texas is in revolt, Generalisimo Santa Anna is sweeping north across Mexico intent on crushing the rebellion. San Antonio De Bejar has just fallen to the victorious Texian army. However Mexican Troops are still spread out across Texas.... On a small farm 5 miles outside San Antonio De Bejar on the banks of the San Antonio river American immigrant Caleb Walker and his family go about their daily business unawares a battle is about to rage across their land...

Caleb and his son Amos tend to the crops:

Meanwhile his wife Angelina begins the morning task of milking the cow:

Caleb's neighbour Don Christiano De La Bugsda arrives with terrible news. "The Mexicans are coming!"

A Mexican infantry company appears from the woods with Cazadores light infantrymen quickly taking up a position along the field wall:

Followed by an impressive looking troop of dragoons:

With a troop of Presidial lancers riding out on their extreme left flank intent on skirting around the farm to cross the river at the bridge:

The infantry soon occupy a strong position:

Meanwhile a Texian force can be seen arriving on the other side of the farm:

The Texians look like they mean to fight and show no sign of leaving the area:

The New Orleans Greys advance in a column straight towards the Mexican line:

Lieutenant James Butler Bonham leads a Texas Cavalry troop forward to engage the Mexican lancers:

More Texian troops arrrive:

They continue their advance. The Mexicans happy to sit and wait for the enemy to come to them:

An overview of the battle. The Mexican Presidial Lancers are attempting to outflank the Texians by the river. A lone Texian unit guards the bridge:

The Presidial troops couch their lancers, dig in their spurs and charge across the bridge. Somehow the Texian unit holds its ground and sees the Mexicans off with devastating musketry:

The Presidials regroup and come again, this time across the ford, but the Texians are ready for them and rout them from the field:

On the opposite flank things have not improved for the Mexicans, two successive cavalry charges by the Texians rout both the Dragoons and one infantry company:

At this point the Mexican officers had had enough and surrendered. Yeehaw!!!
Another very enjoyable Pre Christmas game :)

Nick, are all the minis yours?
Mexicans all Boot Hill miniatures from mine and Captain Moss Chops collections.
The Texians are Boot Hill, Artizan,Foundry, some converted Front Rank Spanish and a couple of Empress Miniatures for good measure from my collection. :)
The Mexicans were all painted by Camp Dave and the Texians painted by Bugsda and myself.
The terrain, buildings and clutter are my work. :)

:o :o :o
Amazing!
Figures, scenery and report all top drawer, my good sir!
:-* :-* :-*
A lovely festive feast for the eyes. That river is superb!
The narrative is great and I love the way the Dragoons used the cover of the crimbo tree to sneak up on the farm... ;)
(I love your basing, by the way, and may well pinch that theme for my Greys when I get around to them. It looks perfect!)
-

-
Well done, mate!
Just an absolutely fabulous setup!

Tidy.

Smashing stuff Nick! Such fun to have a nice big set-up to play with. It's been commented on before too, but the scenery is great, very effective. :)
The Mexican ranks look particularly grand – I hope they'll get to take their revenge soon! ;)
-
Bootiful stuff old fruit! :-* :-*

What a great early Xmas present for all of us, LAF readers.
Even if we can't read, we can look at many beautiful photos.
Thank you.
I know every thing in Texas is bigger( at least they claim they are.)
But that pine tree is one big terrain piece. lol
Merry Christmas.
-
You've changed the orientation of your table, you radical! ;)
Nice looking game by the way :D
-
Great collection of miniatures. Fantastic terrain and a nice report. Good read for me after the dog walk and breakfast on a Sunday morning. Just brilliant.
Your Christmas tree looks nice too. We don t even have one. You remind me that I have to go and buy one very soon.
What I do not like are those plastic movement trays. Please, please, please remove them Nick ! :)
Cheers

great looking battle report, and genuinely one of the best battle fields and figure collections I have seen posted on LAF for quite some time. Well done, and thank you.
-
Well, I suppose I'll have a quick look in the Old West board. Never really much in there, though. It's not like they ever play anything above skirmish level.
Oh, golly. :-*
Fantastic stuff. I see the wargames potential of North America in the nineteenth century in a whole new light...
-
Magnificent looking game! Thank you.
-
Great looking game with excellent figures and terrain :-* :-* :-*
Pity there are not more games like yours at Salute etc (and even over here in North America)
-
Excellent, very pleasant to read and see :-*
-
Brilliant terrain, figures and report.
Thanks.
Cheers,
Barry

I have a very disturbing image in my head from the movie Vera Cruz, where those lance-wielding dragoons kill a revolutionary, slowly closing on him with their lances, finally impaling him. Watched it on German television when I was very young... never could forget it.
-
Wonderful looking skirmish there. Good job pulling out the win for us Texans. :)
-
Am away at the mo with a truly terrible internet connection so I can see the words but no pictures. Bah humbug!
On the plus side I know many of the miniatures and the terrain so I can at least imagine the greatness of it all........
-
Bloody marvellous, Nick. Superb figures and terrain. Don't know how I missed this the last three days, must lay off the cheap bourbon I think.
-
Ok now I have to find figures for the period. Been wanting to do the period but haven't had any luck with finding Figs. Damn another period to do. ;) At this rate I'm going to have to stop looking at this forum. Fiding way to much that I would like to do. :-[
Awesome looking game Nick. Congrats
