Title: Flipit Paper Combat
Post by: Jaeger on 27 December 2011, 09:58:55 PM
Once again I dabble in the realm of paper miniature combat.

This time I'm not the creator though.

The website where I downloaded the rules and minis:

http://flipitpapercombat.com/index.html

For now I'm reading rules and building minis and this is what I've finished so far:

Going for some more Red Hammer Infantry and a chopper in support, and I should be ready for my first game.

I like how the game handles phases. Not something I've come across before (but then again I've kept to mainstream games mostly).

 lol lol lol

Wonderful!

(Must cost you a shit load of ink though!)

It's not really that bad. A vehicle or a squad of infanteri is usually just one sheet of paper.

I've added some Red Hammer Infantry, Green crew for the AA-halftrack and a little terrain:

Looks Great.  When can we expect your first battle report?
Title: Re: Flipit Paper Combat
Post by: Jaeger on 30 December 2011, 08:15:02 AM
Thanks.  :)

First of all I need to finish the two forces. My initial aim is 200 points pr. side. The small missions are 200 points and the larger missions are 300 points. The Green Star force is finished, but I need a few more infantry for the Red Hammers.

Then I'll need a little more terrain, so the little guys have something to hide behind.

Last but not least I'll twist the arm of one of the guys from my local gaming group.

I'm guessing a battle report will be ready some time soon in the new year.

I'm keeping the forces rather basic and will add Heroes, mortars, transports and special forces later on.

They look great!!!
The minis etc...they are free to download or? I´ve looked at the site but it doesn´t say wether they are free or not:

They are quite free.

I think the designer is planning to sell some that are made for special cutting machines, but I don't know much about that stuff.

There's also a discussion thread here:

http://boards.4chan.org/po/res/449823#452981

This thread includes the Super Heavies and the first model of the 5th faction called White Lotus".

In looking at the web site, I did not find the instructions in folding the minis.  Are there any instructions?

There are some here:

http://forum1.aimoo.com/flipitpapercombat/Paper-Models/Vehicle-Instructions-1-1770839.html

(but you have to copy/paste the links as they redirect wrongly otherwise)

And here:

http://forum1.aimoo.com/flipitpapercombat/Paper-Models/Infantry-Instructions-1-1770836.html

I know the designer plans to make instructions for every model, but it takes time, so... dunno.

Just one pointer though.

When there's a cut out hole for at turret, rotor or crewman. Remember to test the size of both before glueing.

I had one crewman who couldn't fit in the tank turret on that account.

Added the last Red Hammer Infantry guys, a little church and a few more trees:

And I just discovered that a couple of more White Lotus Faction models just became available on the 4chan thread.  :)

With both forces at 200 points I'm currently making some more terrain.

A squad of Green Star Grunts searches a small village for enemies:

Absolutely excellent. Sadly, I don't think I have the patience or the skill to put these miniatures together.

It can be a bit daunting to assemble papercraft, but these models are relatively easy.

I've been putting some more terrain together...

Red Hammer forces move through an urban area:

These are fantastic. My girlfriend loves papercraft so once we get some more ink for the printer I may be able to convince her that she really wants to put a load of paper armies together.

When I saw this thread, I immediately saw the potential of this stuff as a means of introducing my 9 year old nephew to tabletop gaming, without jeopardizing my beloved painted miniatures. This way, he can also build his own army, at the fraction of the cost of a 'real' miniature game. The chibbie/cute factor will help convince him too I reckon. And should he appear uncharacteristically resistant to the crack, it's just paper... :D

If I can find some hours over the weekend, I'll see if I can get some cutting and glueing done :)

Seems like a winning combination Gibby.  :)

I too was quite smithen by the chibbie factor and my kid really finds the models cool too.

Time for a rather incoherent battle repport.

My buddy took command of the Red Hammers and I commanded the Green Stars.

Pre-game shot:

Green Stars:

Red Hammers:

I lost the set-up, we deployed and moved forward as neither of our forces were in range:

Red Hammers move agressively, but the tank ventures a bit to far ahead:

I mange to destroy the tank and the driver, but then miss two 3+ saves and my airplane went down too. My AA-halftrack shoots ineffectively at the Hammercopter which is taking its toll on my infantry:

My tank and infantri is clearing out the Red Hammer infantry from the blue building. My AA-halftrack is slowly loosing the fight with the Hammercopter:

At the end my pilot (who survived the plane crash) rushes forward to draw fire away from my tank which is set on destroying the Red Hammer Missile Truck:

But that didn't go according to plan either:

 :D

We played once more (no pictures though). I lost again, but this time only 1 Red Hammer Infantry man and the Red Hammer Tank driver was left alive on the table.

The game was a lot of fun and when I add heroes, commandoes etc. I'm sure it'll be even more so.

Total awesomeness  :-*
Title: Re: Flipit Paper Combat

Thanks.  :)

It was actually quite hilarious and the paper models takes the edge of the competative play and adds an element of... well... fun.

The gaming system is also quite interresting. Movement after shooting and simoultanious combat really makes for a different type of game and tactics.

Spured on by the high I found the time to put a Green Star Geep (transport) together:

Quite lovely.  I hadn't noticed before that the Red Hammers are wearing Santa suits.

Sure thing Dr. Viking. :)

Yes they do look a bit like santa (with tanks and machineguns naturally).

And now they even have a truck:

Even though the truck has space for 5+1 driver I wouldn't recommend putting them into the truck. The fit is extremly tight and it's not pratical to embark/disembark during the game imo. But it looks cool with all the little guys crammed in the people's truck. :)
