Apologies for the doublepost on here, and the Weird WW1 board, but not sure which board (or both) it is suitable for, given its both Fantasy, and decidely Weird World War One....
:D
First up, i've commissioned a bunch of new figures - WW1 Russian-themed Dwarves, sculpted by Bob Olley. I aim to produce a well-rounded force eventually - the first bunch made consists of a 10 man (sorry, Dwarf) Rifle Squad, and the second bunch of 5 Specialists. Future figures will include Dwarf Cossack Cavalry, and some support units.

They are slightly smaller than Bob's Scrunts, and are approx 20mm to the eye. The reason being, that they are designed to fit in with Hasslefree's Kindred (WW1 British-themed Halflings), and Goblin Garrisons German-themed Goblins.

I've set up a webpage to showcase the figures - please note that this is strictly a hobby for me, not a commercial venture - i'm not looking to make a profit, and all proceeds will be put back in, to make more figures. If you'd like to get hold of some of them, email me on akulasarmies@hotmail.co.uk - include your full name, address, paypal address, and what you are after.
Secondly, the figures are designed to support the game i'm running at Salute 2012 - a WW1 Fantasy Trench game.

Those are REALLY COOL & VERY WELL DONE minis...nobody does Dwarfs quite as well as Bob Olley! I wish you much success with your project.

Paaaanzerfaaaauuuuste!!!!
Yay stuff I might be able to use. How I can get dwarves, which are german, into Russian uniforms, I do not know... Conversion I should think!
Didn't know about those goblins though, cheers for the link. I've been wanting some Japanese for Panzerfauste!

If it helps the dwarves have separate heads, so you can play around with them - they are in greatcoats after all.
The rifle is a dwarfied version of the nagant, used by the Russians in both WW1 and WW2 - something like 16.5 million were made, so the Germans would have captured stocks as well......whatever fluff suits your game!
:D

At the end of the day it is fantasy. Panerfauste makes no attempt to say 'this IS THIS', it has rules for races and the guns are pretty generic, so you could use anything.
For example, I have far too many Gnomes (which are French/Belgian in PZF), so lots of them end up as 'Vichy' french. The goblins were on the dwarf side, so might have borrowed some of their gear! Who knows, I could make some russian dwarf zombies for the far north-eastern dead-lands!
Fantastic figures, a great project and you know me, historo-fantasy is my bag!!! :)

Any Dwarf is a good dwarf!
Okay, some are "better" than others.
And, yes, some appeal more (or less) to my tastes.
Still these look like they might be compatible with my Citadel/Der Kriegspieler Dwarf figures so they might work out very well! I can always use another force of alternate reality dwarf fighters!
Gracias,
Glenn

seeing as Dags' has put some photos of his excellent paintjobs on the weirdWW1 thread, thought i'd put some of my efforts on here.
What I lack in quality painting, I make up in numbers
:D

As all of the heads are interchangeable, i'm going to have a play around with the next lot, to create even more variety.

Should have probably mentioned - colour scheme.
The base coat for the greatcoats/peaked caps is GW Graveyard.
The furry hats base coat is a light slate grey. Then everything has had a GW Devlan Mud wash - brings out the detail on the beard, hats, back packs etc.

Absolutely right on both counts. These are very cool, and Bob Olley's Dwarves are some of my favorites.

I think the paint-jobs look good. They definitely suit the table and the setting. That's a fantastic project you have there, and I look forward to watching it develop.

Yeah man :)
Realy cool models bud and cracking paint job by Dags.

Thanks guys, for the words of encouragement.
Have been pleasently surprised by the level of interest these have drawn so far - the good news is that this means that the next part of the project is already underway.
:)

They are very nice.....And too tempting (your painting is cracking as well Akula).

Feel free to be tempted!
:D
Thanks for the kind words on my painting. TBH, i'd describe my painting, as "tidy" - its nothing special, as I have lots of them to paint.
The good thing about the figures, is that they really are easy to paint - Bob Olley's style makes it easy to get an effective looking result - a simple wash of GW Devlan Mud, on top of the base coat, brought out the detail, of the creases in the greatcoat, and the beard etc, then just add a few highlights, and on to the next one.

I need to know. What exactly is Panzerfauste?

There is a set of WWW2 Fantasy rules/figures

I'll be writing a set of fast play WW1 Fantasy rules for Salute, as I'm putting a game on - the rules will be FREE to download after Salute.

Akula,
I've sent you an email via "Akula's Armies" but it bounced, so I repeated my order via a LAF-PM. Please read it.
Thx,
Rudi

Hi Rudi,
Odd - the address seems to be working fine:
akulasarmies@hotmail.co.uk
Have replied to your PM, on LAF.

Painted another squad of riflemen, plus another section of specialists - swopped the heads over on this bunch (other than the sniper), to provide some more variety - the "cup" between the shoulders of each figure makes it a doddle to do, as the heads are csat separate.

They are gorgeous models mate, I will be sending you some money at the end of the month. Too nice to miss as I don't get the impression they will not be around for long! :)

Good man!
As this is a personal project rather than a business venture I can't guarantee that each bunch of figures will be around for long, as I won't be holding huge "stocks" of each, so as Rob said, if you like them don't hang around, as I may not have the infantry available, when the next lot of figures (details below) are cast up, sometime in April.
:D
I'm trying to avoid unnecessary cross-posting, or bumping threads, but i'll add the greens i've posted on the Weird World War forum now, as they are relevant (on the basis that different people seem to follow the fantasy/Weird threads)
Some photos of the first stage greens for the Mounted Cossacks. These are the dollies, from which the final figures will be made - each dolly is a combined rider/pony, as I don't like minis where the riders never seem to sit quite right.
The plan is for the right arm, and the riders head to be interchangable, to give additional variety (please note the heads are attached for the purposes of the photos with a blob of bluetack, so aren't sitting flush with the figures). I'm still working out numbers but there will probably be at least 5 variants, armed with a combination of pistols/swords/spear/rifle (plus possibly a sprue with bugle/standard options).
The dollies will be going off to Griffin this week, so i'd hope to have the finished castings ready before Salute.
A sprue of 5 heads wearing budenovka felt hats, as an alternative option to make an "evil" dwarf army - I hope that these will be available at the same time as the cavalry (ie before Salute, in April).
The budenovka was popular with followers of Lenny, a malcontent who held radical views that gold from the King's mines should be divided equally for the "common good".
Many dwarves believe that these so-called "commonists" are sick, or in some way possessed by dark spirits - whatever the reason, they are a small but increasingly vocal group amongst dwarves.....no good will come of this.
Lenny himself, will be part of a future release.
Dwarf pilot half-figure - for the Dwarf plane i'm having made.

Not sure yet on timescale for this one.

Cavalry look good and the 'reds' would look rather spiffing head to toe in red leather.
-
dammit, you're making it very hard to keep resisting these! :-[

Hehe! They are fantastic!
I think I can get away with infantry, not sure about cavalry just yet!!!

Just opened my package, they look great!
Here is a quick size & dimensions comparison shot; current Olley Reaper dwarves on the left, vintage Ral Partha on the right

The Arms Race Continues!
These will be off to Griffin for casting very shortly, and with luck i might have some in time for Salute.
First up, the Dwarven Cossacks:
There will be a bunch of 5 of them together (my own cavalry units will probably be 10 figures strong) - as with the infantry the heads are interchangeable - in the case of the cavalry, there will be different arm options, with a selection of swords, lance, rifles, a pistol, and even a bugle option.
I'll also have a separate "Senior Command" - these two from the photo above.
The Cossack General has got a top knot, but you could alway trim this off, if you want him to be bald.
Bob has also made the first of the support weapons - a HMG team:
Needless to say, I'll confirm when I've got some spare castings of these, for anyone that is interested.
