Started the Sci-Fi entry for Salute
Hasslefree model I am painting up to be an Umbrella operative from Resident Evil, I was originally going to paint the RCPD STARS logo of which I managed to do the STARS part, the 3 yellow stars in the middle but couldnt do the tiny Raccoon Police Dep around the 3 stars and I threw a tantrum on Saturday when i failed miserably
Work so far

picture isnt great but it was a quickie before bed last night.

Looking brilliant. I like the umbrella logo, it gives it a nice splash of colour. :-* :-* :-*

Always a treat to see your work.

Great work. The Umbrella logo really fits on this model.

Thanks pal, yeah the splash of something had to be done as it will be a competition mini, just all black as I suppose he should be won't stand a chance of winning much
;D
Always a treat to see your work.

Very nice good luck at Salute ;)
-
Nice PJ :)

Cheers guys,
Sorry lack of progress on this.....I recently had a play on Shogun 2, and having NEVER been beaten by a total war game I was a little concerned that I was getting rolled over and anally violated every game on legendary difficulty within 10 turns. Once I get a bee in my bonnet about something I MUST find out a solution! Suffice to say I have made it to turn 20 AND have a healthy looking empire with ninjas a plenty causing havoc. For those interested the trick is to avoid samurai early on and focus on masses of peasants.
So I have cracked it and I can now return to painting this bald headed wonder.

Little rework of the face and head done tonight

Is it just me, or is that Vinny Jones?
-
should have gone with a wimbeldon strip instead of an umbrella tshirt!
-
Impressive paintjob! :o
-
Great paint!
tt43.

Cheers guys
Little more work done

Getting better and better.
-
lol, my exclamation is hard to translate in english... and not very polite.
that's gorgeus!
I'd say to work more on the umbrella sign. the highlits are nice, but too strong. it should look more like a drawing!
you're achieving amazing standards, Mr D!

Cheers pal, one day I might even get my arse in gear and get my hands on some of your minis

Cheers pal, yes agreed something about the logo doesnt sit right with me either. And if i ever want to acheive my person goal of one day in the far future winning big at Golden Demon I am going to have to acheive higher and higher and then even higher standards, all about practice, paint, paint and paint some more and try new techniques. Only thing that can stop me is my own self doubt, which does rear it's ugly head.......usually soon after being in a room with a Mr Merritt. Knowing my luck though, by the time i reach that standard GW will have gone into liquidation :D

I think the umbrella corp symbol has a little too much depth for, as I read it, a T shirt print, don't get me wrong, looks nice and all but probably not what ultimately you're looking to achieve, maybe lose some of the shading?
Still looks great, just don't take the black any more blue. ;)
Could've done a Devon flag though! Represent! :D

cheers pal. dont take the black any more blue....you have lost me, it aint any blue on the black. Devon flag would have been a great idea but I never thought of it, but in my defense as you well know I am a grockle :P
Little update.......
finsihed the base last night..........
and managed to **** it up as well in a 2 part resin related disaster, will post pictures of the "failure" later before I restart it.
-
Failure, although after chipping some of the crap off it tonight it's not as bad as I thought, but still the new one will be perfect (I hope)
new one
(http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z79/Mrdee1969/Redo.jpg)
-
Easy but how impressive.
-
Thanks pal. I think that the new one will be better for a number of reasons though, the first one was just the arm so it goes, hand, wrist, forearm, elbow and then nothing........whereas the new zombie is the entire torso and (not pictured) his spine and entrails hanging which will be just visible in the murky water.
Although I am not decided as to whether to have him mostly out the water almost at the top or just his forearms and face pocking out....thoughts on either option?
-
If you junk the first one I'll have it. dibs! :D
-
it is junked, pm me your address and ill post it you tomorrow pal
-
The Over-Acheiver!

Thanks pal, I have legal work to do before I get to play with my toys and paints again tonight.
-
Right well the base is done. Still need to finish off the guy but I thought I would put him in situ to see what is all looked like
(http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z79/Mrdee1969/2010_11120003.jpg)
-
I thought (assumed) you'd have him square on mate, the menace of ol'crawly being more apparent, (ie pride comes before a foul! (fall)). ;). Looks great mind.
-
he should be its just loose on the base to give myself an idea, after all his eyes have been painted looking down so they are looking that the zombie
-
One word,
Bada$$

Reworked the base a little to try and draw the eye back to the model
(http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z79/Mrdee1969/2010_11130002.jpg)
All that needs doing is the guys boots i think
-
Very nice, see what you mean about the body in the water effect, much nicer. Thanks for the other plinth though will be put to good use promise!
The Commander
-
your welcome pal.
I need to balance out the upper part of the base, what i am thinking is a rusty down pipe on the left in line with the outlet pipe near the water with a valve wheel, perhaps even having the pipe bend off to the right above vinnie.
thoughts?
-
Zed coming down the wall be too much? ;)
yeah I sense the need for more pipework, plus a valve of some form definately.
-
zed crawling down the wall might look a little odd, never really thought of them as the dexterous type
I was thinking something like this.....
FEAR MY PHOTOSHOP DRAWING SKIILS!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
well something a little more like this...........

That frames the original mini nicely, and draws attention back to him.
-
I need a, 'I'm not worthy' smily ;)
-
That's turned out to be a little belter 8) 8)
The cobwebs are a nice touch 8)
I'll have to go back through the thread (I don't think it's mentioned) but I can't see much of a meniscus on the exposed edge of the water, what product did you use?
cheers
James
-
Yup that works!
:-* :-* :-*
-
Looks amazing, great touch.
-
Wonderful ! :-*
I really like the sewer, and the mini gets out clearly.

Thanks pal, water used was Deluxe Materials Solid Water. There is sometimes a very slight meniscus but I sand it down with super fine sandpaper and then gloss varnish and it becomes unnoticable.
Yup that works!
:-* :-* :-*
Cheers pal, I still need to know where you are getting your train tickets pal so I can save myself £50 :D
Looks amazing, great touch.
Cheers pal

Right well i have ordered some resin hazmat barrels from Fenris Games which I MIGHT use one of on the base but otherwise pretty much finished for now. I will take decent photos of it as soon as I make that descision.
