Title: Perry Sudan range of use in Zulu wars?
Post by: CptJake on 19 January 2012, 11:42:05 AM
I'm looking at the Perry Naval Landing Party troopers and gattling, would they be suitable for Zulu war gaming or did uniforms/equipment change too much?

How about some of the Perry regular British infantry?   Would it work?

Thanks

Jake

No real issues with using the Naval troops and Gatling that I can see. They are fine for the Naval Brigades from HMS Active, Tenedos (who had a Gatling in Pearson's Column as I recall) and Boadicea, however the men from Shah wore straw sennet hats rather than sailor's caps.

None of the infantry are quite right, though, because of boring and pedantic details of uniform and equipment here and there. What you have to decide is how much that matters to you.

Here's a breakdown of what the sailors wore:

Active: Blue jumpers, white trousers, white caps.
Tenedos: Blue jumpers, blue trousers, blue caps.
Boadicea: White jumpers, white trousers, blue caps.
Shah: Blue jumpers, blue trousers, straw hats.

There were also Royal Marine Light Infantry in the Naval Brigades.

CptJake, are you aware of the forum I'm linking?
It's a great site focused purely on anglo-zulu war study, with a zulu wargaming section.

For the times I've been stuck on fine details, I always head there.
