Good luck!

DAMMMM you!!! had my Mouse Idea already :D Now a candy pack hmmmmm what to do what to do.
-
I thought the computer mouse won the poll!?!?!
-
I also asked people on The Miniatures Page and the poll results were even. I then talked to a couple of my judges and we decided that there are more shape options for candy containers and that they are more properly "trash". Sorry if this throws a wrench into anyone's plans.
-
wait? would a kinder egg be a candy container?

Now there's a puzzler. They're illegal in The US :? so I only know about them from my trips to Canada.
My official answer is:Yes, you can use Kinder eggs.

yeas!

Prize support from Forge of Ice and Secret Weapon now added!

Really? O.O
-
Really? O.O
Yup. Apparently American children are too stupid to not swallow the capsules. So when I go to Canada I get Kinder Eggs and Cuban cigars.
-
Wow I was thinking kinder eggs too I did not know they were illegal. Just have to re arrange my thinking now but Ill find something to do.
-
I'll be hitting the supermarkets tomorrow for the zaniest candy containers I can find! 8)
I'm looking forward to this... :)

The same... In Spain, the gas station shops are good places too. Good luck ;)
-
I loved the models that came out of the last one, so I'm really looking forward to this one. I just need to track down some of those weird off-brand Polish(?) Kinder eggs you get in cheap supermarkets sometimes.

Yeah. You think you have it bad. My Ice Breakers isn't green it is blue and my Mentos container isn't red it is green. Now i have to go out and buy more candy. :-)

And as for Kinder Eggs, it isn't that they are illegal in the US but more it is illegal to import them. This came up before about the eggs. Someone said they seen them in the stores they visit in California. And if you do a Google search for Kinder Eggs you will see links about places in NYC to find them as well. They aren't extinct, just darn hard to find. :-)

Got my container today, and it's friggin' 'uge!!
And getting rid of the contents has me on a sugar rush so severe, I might well have finished this puppy in one go, somewhere around 4 tomorrow morning...
lol ;D o_o :-X :`

Couple of questions to ask if thats ok?
Is there a limit on the size of plastic candy container? I got hold of a..............guess its a kind of gumball machine. About 13 inches tall, that came with gum in the top,is that an allowable piece of trash?
Also........do you have to use the whole container? I got 2 small candy containers (as backup in case the gumball machine is unuseable) that come apart into 3 bits,do I have to use all of it and does it have to stay in one piece?
Sorry for the questions
Steve
-
I hope they allow that - I'd love to see what kind of terrain someone makes out of an entire gumball machine!
-
Imagine that... :o
I'm working on the very same thing...
-
An actual gumball machine is not really what I had in mind since it has the supposed capability of being used more than once and thus isn't "trash". I'd like to stick with things that are really meant to be used once and then thrown away.
Hopefully this doesn't derail your plans too badly.
-
Well, the one I'm working on right now, really doesn't even deserve the name 'machine'. You could say it's more of a rather large and oddly shaped Smint box, which could possibly also be refilled (and I've actually done so in the past, come to think of it...)
Basically, it's a (very) cheap dispenser, that does not even work (had to take the candy out of the top, as the mechanism jammed up immediately).
Bought it for €1,00 at one of those stores that sell stuff that doesn't make it into the regular stores (you know; a test flavour that doesn't catch on, almost to the expiry date, general crappyness etc). And that was including the (nasty) candy!
I'd say it's more of a use-once-never-buy-it-again variety. If you want, I'll send you a picture of mine before I set to work on it, so you can judge for yourself.
And yes; derailing is in order, as I'm almost to the painting stage already...
-
Thats not a problem. Might just do what I had in mind and use it as scenery for my showpiece photograph
Touching on my other question (sorry to be asking) does the container have to stay in one piece or can we use bits of it if it is designed to come apart? (for example,if using a kinder egg do we need to use the whole egg? Can we use the two halves seperately or does it have to stay in the one "egg" shape?)
Thanks
Steve

To Daeothar: Give it a go! I'm really just interested to see what folks come up with.
To Bobbie: Pieces are fine. Judges will be looking for how effectively you used the piece and if that means using bits then by all means do it.
Good luck to you both and thanks for your interest in Trash Bash!

Just added Kromlech as a returning prize supporter! The prizes this year should be even greater than last year's!

Sure you can still enter! Entry deadline is March 1. I don't see any problem with entering three of the same vehicle. But you might just take pictures of one of them for the three painted pictures and the one picture of the pre-painted stage.

I meant to ask, can we post up a work on progress thread? I know they did that with the 'Build Something' contest on this site. You just couldn't show the completed or painted model until the competition was over.

Posting a work in progress thread is fine though I'd still like to save the surprise of the finished pieces until the end.
I'm looking forward to seeing your entry! :D

I intend entering this competition. The main construction is nearly complete and the painting should begin within the next couple of days. The base for my particular entry is a pair of Juicy Drop Pops.
The vessels name;
The Louis Daguerre, a French Observation and Surveying Aeronef, currently situated on Le Mons, Mars.
I will keep construction and painting posts until after the competition as I believe that this adds to the intrigue.
Good luck to all taking part.

How did everybody get on? I managed to finish it last night and rush together some photos. I'm not entirely happy with the way the pictures came out!! :'( :'( I think I'll need to invest in some sort of lighting/photography rig!
I'm really looking forward to all the entries!
-
Sent mine in yesterday -- like anything done to a deadline, there are a few things I would probably have done differently/better if I'd had more time, but on the other hand if there hadn't been a deadline I might not have done it at all, you know? I definitely had a great time making the piece.
In one of those little bits of innovation that happen when you're trying a project like this, I came up with a technique for turning scrap material from my work into terrain as a sort of side effect of the main thing I was building; I'm now going to use it on half a dozen or so new buildings. I'm quite pleased by that!
Many thanks to Brian for running the contest, and I'm really excited to see everyone's work!
-
Got mine in yesterday too. I even bought a photo set up with lights and a photo box but still can't take a great picture. :(
-
I'm in and in a change from the usual mad-rush. I got mine in early.
Can't wait to see the other entries.

Rushing my painting as I type this. And you have no idea how difficult it is to apply a wash, over still drying superglue, whilst typing a reply about it on an internet forum... o_o
Seriously; I might have to take tomorrow afternoon off form work to get my entry finished before the deadline. Not to mention the photo work. But I'll be darned if I let off now, so close to the finish line! >:(
Oh; and don't cross your fingers when they're covered in superglue. Trust me...
**EDIT** The deadline is ON March 1st, right? If not, I'm royally screwed... :'(
-
Go Daeothar Go!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I'll be accepting them until 11:59pm on March 1 so you've still got time.
Good luck!
-
Yay! Now to prematurely escape the shackles of corporate slavery for the day...
-
And it's OVAH! Thanks to all of the great entrants of Trash Bash 2012. I am amazed at the skill, craft, and inspiration that these folks put into their entries and I can't wait to show them to you all.
I am currently compiling the entries and will be giving them to the judges. Results will be posted on March 12.
(Seriously, you all are going to be knocked out by how great these are. :o)
-
Oooooohhhhh I can't wait!! :P
Any info on how many entries you got?
-
Whew; in the nick of time... ::)
I am really chuffed with my result; regardless of how my entry does, I now have a really cool addition to my collection of gaming pieces. :)
Also; I can't wait to see what everyone else came up with; I'm sure the entries will be quite diverse.
Roebeast: can you tell us how many entries have been received?
And when can we start showcasing our entries? After the jury's decision has been made public I presume?
-
Results will be posted on March 12...I cant wait...
-
so are ppl open to show thier entries now?
-
I received a total of nine entries. I'd like for people to wait until after the 12th to post them as I'm trying to keep the entries anonymous to the judges. This way they are judging them purely on what they see instead of a person's name.
It will be worth the wait! :D
The entries are very diverse and again I'm amazed at the level of skill they all show. Each entry will be an inspiration for other modelers.
