Nice mate! The shields are cracking :-*
-
yep - the shields aren't bad for freehand.
I just need Biggles to get his Decline and Fall games going
-
I also need a mate like Pete. Pete is really cool. Lots of free-hand there.
Amazing army, I'm envious.
Those are especially great:

Splendid :-* :-*
I noticed that you mentioned on the blog about re-basing for Hail Cesaer, looking at what you have I don't think you would have to do that. As long as the distinction is there between unit sizes and your opponant/s are based similar you'll be fine :)
cheers

Thanks gents,
I will pass your kind words on to Pete!
Just posted up the Emperor and some artillery as well.

Awesome. That banner is smashing.
-
When he turns his mind to it, Peter can do fantastic freehand work. I have some 15mm Late Romans he painted may years ago and the designs are as good as these. I will need to dig out and photograph.

Well, please, would love to see them.

Lovely rich painting.

Pete still uses Humbrol enamels. I really think that there is a depth of colour that he gets from them that is usually lacking with acrylics.

And Gripping Beast artillery

Pretty sure it's more up to the painter and less to the colors, Pete is just a great free-hand painter.
Nice looking hatra ballista!

Gets you itching to paint.

Strange, but these really are my favourite figures!Must have something to do with the fact they were the first metal figures I ever had.

Stunning!!

btw, these shield designs, are they based on historical references or just Pete's creation?

All historical, although there is a mix of western and eastern troops. Having said that, I am sure they would be transferred around the Empire :)

I recognize at least some of them from the Notitia Dignitatum. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notitia_Dignitatum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notitia_Dignitatum)
The freehand work on the shields and banner is absolutely amazing!
