I recently painted up two Zuzzy gaming mats. I hunted around online for examples plus tutorials and techniques used for painting them and was a little underwhelmed.
I recorded how I did my two mats on my blog if any of you guys are interested.
The "Scourged Forest" mat went from this...

...to this...

...to this...

Details on how I did it are HERE (http://sho3box.wordpress.com/2012/02/20/scourged-forest-zuzzy-gaming-mat/)for anyone interested.
The "Wounded City" mat went from this...

...to this

The methods used can be seen HERE (http://sho3box.wordpress.com/2012/02/17/wounded-city-zuzzy-gaming-mat/).
I hope that they are of use to some of you.
Comments, criticisms and queries all welcome.

Very well done mats.
Thanks for the how to on your blog.
I have been playing on old Geo-Hex mats for years.
Looks like I need to upgrade.

Great jorb. I have the city mat and love it. Get lots of compliments when I break it out at cons. Been tempted to get the forest mat for PA gaming. Have been using a custom mat from terrainguy.com, but I want more visual texture. Might have to make the jump soon.

Thank you. I have had the scourged forest mat sitting in it's box unpainted for 2 months. I was a little intimidated by fear of ruining it. I appreciate you sharing your methods.

I hope that it helps you to decide how you want to approach your mat in some way.
They are daunting projects but to get them to the level shown above only took me a couple of hours for each mat. Much easier and more enjoyable than I expected.

Thanks for reminding me of these, I had heard about them some time ago but pretty much assumed they were either far to expansive or not nearly as good as they sounded. A quick look at their website and your work proves me wrong on both. Can't say I mind being wrong on these counts tough. lol
