Hi all!
I am looking for modern vehicles that will fit into 28mm zombie games.
Cheap is good.
Easy to get is good. (I am in the USA)
Looking especially for a town dump truck

I figure with a plow it would be one heck of a zombie killing machine. Maybe good enough to wipe out a Horde base in Akula's skirmish rules.
Thanks for any leads you can offer

Siku makes some wonderful 1:55 vehicles, mostly modern. I think they would be nearly exactly what you are looking for. Lots of other diecast will fit in too, although box-scale is a little small at times.

Nothing should wipe out a horde bud, it's the horde that does the wiping, (and chewing. munching, swallowing etc...)
Plenty of diecasts out there, generally you need to go 1/43 for variety and cheapness, plenty of shots in my thread of various vehciles used.

Maybe the plow would not kill the hoard...but the snowblower option with the jam safety off might chew a pretty big cut through even a horde base.

The scale issue is always a tough one. I think Commander Vyper is right about 1:43. While they can be a little big (it depends on the individual cars, really), this is more than balanced out by low cost (compared to "correct" scales) and easy availability. I have bought a few 1:55 in the past, and have always been very unhappy at how tiny they seem beside a based heroic 28mm figure.

Another vote for 1/43.
Or as has been stated in other threads on the subject. carry a figure with you when visiting toy stores/ dollar stores.
See how a vehicle scales up next to it and if that feels good, don't hesitate.
Make sure the fig is based. Big difference if you put a based or unbased figure next to a vehicle.

Usual thing, 1/43, 1/50 etc all work, just don't mix models re: scales, ie if you have a 1/43 hummer then don't get a 1/50 hummer, maisto do nice sets of 1/43 private cars that appear here in Lidl for £3.99 for a box of 4 or 5, good value.
As do the supermarkets, though quality can be an issue. 99% of my cars are 1/43, with the odd 1/50 truck an ambulance and hummers from Fenris Games which are 1/50 -1/55 I think, (Ian help me out here! ;)). Also hotwheels bikes, choppers etc scale up well for 28mm gaming. Don't forget as well that as Zizi says, 1/43 scale really means nothing in the cheap diecast car world, there are still pretty hefty levels of artistic licence when it comes to sizing, best thing to do: go with what works for your table:

My vote is also on 1:43 for availability and price. You can find some models like this on eBay:

Though of course it's cheaper to buy them in a store, just have a look around 8)

Careful Careful, these are not 1:43 scale! they are much smaller, I bought them then gave them to my boy because they fit in with his matchbox cars better.
