Title: Need a way to stiffen vinyl tracks.
Post by: Col.Stone on 04 March 2012, 04:21:12 PM
I have a bunch of diecast tanks with soft vinyl-tracks, wondering if anyone has a foolproof way of making them stiffer so they can take and keep a paintjob.
been trying a bit with PVA but i'm not really getting the result i want..

Yup. Superthin cyano will do the job. Just be very careful doing it, the stuff goes everywhere  >:D

Don't kick it either (accelerate) especially if it gets on your finger nail  lol (hurts like an absolute b***h).

If you have a medium hard brush you don't mind wasting you can brush the glue into hard to get places. You do need to be quick so practise on something first.

cheers

I'll give it a go, if that doesn't work i'll look at bases..
65*100 mm, or just thin ones that go under the tracks, that is the question..

I was also going to suggest liquid superglue. In the UK the £1.00 discount store POUNDLAND has some tubes/bottles of superglue that I do not like using as it is too liquid. However it may be just what you are looking for.

My suggestion would be to support the tank over a scrap piece of paper/card and drip the liquid superglue in layers allowing each layer to fully dry before going on to the next.

Keep us informed as to the results as I am sure there are many who would like to know the results.

 lol

Seems to be working, may have been a bit cheap on applying it, only had expensive stuff, so it's slightly "boingy" still, but i think the method is a winner=)

I'm going to pick up a few really cheap ones when i get to the pound/dollar/10 SEK-store next time so i can be a little more liberal in applying it :D

Glad it's working, the best way is softly-softly. You can always add more but getting too much off is near impossible.

:)
I'll try to restrain myself, but when you've got 10 tanks to work on it's easy to get sloppy ;)
