Title: Steampunk Infantry?
Post by: Thunderchicken on March 24, 2012, 08:40:45 AM
I'm going to be investing in LAM's VSF/Steampunk range soon for a project I've got in mind and I was wondering if there are any standard infantry/military figures out there that will compliment the range? I've looked at figures already in my collection and ranges I can think of but any other suggestions?

Here's the list I've drawn up so far:

Standard Brits in Home Service uniform and standard Prussians - No.
Warrior Miniatures England Invaded Brits - too WWI but could be converted.
Warrior Miniatures Germans - possibility
Warzone Mutant Chronicles - possibility with conversions
WH40K stuff such as Steel Legion and Death Corps - too modern looking
Artizan Thrilling Tales Immortal Battalion  - possibility with conversions

As I said, the hard part is finding figures that will comlpment the LAM range.

First thing that came to my mind was "England Invaded range" ;)
But maybe some Ironclad-minis could work, like the Prussian Stomtroopers.
Or from Wyrd the "Freikorps" minis

Nice. Scale might be a problem with those fellas. I wonder how they compare to LAM. Might pick up a sample.

I forgot all about those. Been trying to remember why I didn't buy these for VSF and I'm thinking it was down to the weapons. Would work for what I've got in mind.

I do not have any of them I saw them once in a shop. they might not fit well with other ranges, being as 30mm.
Anyhow you may find them also here:

Hope it helps ;)

Could also contact Martin (Kellerkind) and ask him if he could make some comparison shots, if it would be of interest :)

Thanks for the pictures, that's very much appreciated. Agree with Mason, the bases are nice.

Any other comparison pictures would be great, I'm hoping the Kellerkind figs will be compatible.

Ah, I thought you was referring to other steampunk figures on the Kellerkind site. There's some nice characters there.

Comsquare, thanks for your help.

A link for inspiration. More on the troops than the vehicles. They mentioned something about "torsos" from a company.

How steampunked do you want them? My Wild West VSF force is a bit steampunk but the troops are fairly standard with some steampunk specials. I have a new unit about to be started which might work, do I have until the weekend to try and get one done?

Right, knocked one up today. Bear in mind it's a 'proof of concept' model so the greenstuff isn't as neat as it should be but it gives the idea. I'll give it a quick paint job later this week, the multiple barrels don't show up very well like this.

It's a Warlord Games plastic British soldier with one of my steampunk heads and a scratchbuilt gatling rifle. Assuming I'm happy with the end result I'll make a better weapon and do some arms around it then cast them. That way I can just stick the bits straight onto a plastic body. Assuming it works and is liked, I'd be happy to cast them for others.

As promised, a quick paintjob so the model can be seen properly. I like it so I shall do some proper versions after Salute.

I have the same LAM minis. I'm working on a really similar project actually.

I'm looking at Anglo-Zulu Brits with Ramshackle conversion heads and some sort of weapons swaps. Since I still want some crew served weapons I'm just not sure what to do there.

I also snagged a couple of Brass Coffins from Ramshackle for this project... We'll see how it comes out!
