Both great entries!
Froggy those spugs are great! really nice eye sparkle give lovely depth.
And Mr Ferret, those space ships are some of the most amazing I have ever seen, beautifully evocative space fleet!
Good work both of you!
-
Very tough choice. Ill not vote now in case I change my mind lol
I will have to pop back now and then and see which one makes a more lasting impression.
-
Froggy, stick to your guns!

Fantastic space fleet Laughing Ferret! WOW! What's your painting recipe? The contrast on the white ships is superb, but looks like a lot of work. Any tips?
-
I'd be interested in that too, as I've painted a couple fleets like that.
-
I like these spug aliens- I'm sure you've said before Froggy, but where are they from? Could see myself picking some up :D
Thanks Alone! Very kind of you.
Malebolgia: Thanks! I struggled with finding the right process for these ships. I have been waiting 2 years to paint this fleet- and have 3 or 4 painted in various shades of grey in the trial & mostly error process that will need to be redone.
I started from a white primer. Then paint the whole ship in Vallejo Model Color Pale GreyBlue. wash with a mix of water, extender, secret weapon concrete wash & a bit of Badab Black wash with a touch of the Pale GreyBlue paint. I don't have a percentage, just mix it to what looks right for the eye, the darker color you see on the ship. With a wet brush, pick up the wash from the edges and forward parts of the large panels. with very thin paint, redo the base color with a touch of white, blending in with the wash mix that is left, about half to 2/3 of each panel, and keep adding white to this mix as you layer & blend up, with edging in pure white after.
have something interesting to listen to, it's tedious work ;)

Ferret, who makes those Ships? and where can I get them?...I thought they were Spartan Games but apparently not (or I am just not seeing them)
Fantastic Job :)!
-
Thanks Old Coast!
The Ships are from Ground Zero Games, from the Neu-Swabian League ships.

edit: correct link now- was the TV Theme for 'Rockford files' for awhile lol a friend of mine is planning a Norse Blood Bowl team, with a name that means 'Rock & Ford' so I was teasing him that they'd have to have that old show for their theme song. the link was still in copy ;) Sorry to confuse any in the interim ;D

Those spugs are really getting to me - didn't care for them at first but now I quite like them. =)
Ferret, that ship painting method sounds like a recipe for madness and insanity! :o They do look very nice though!
-
I've always liked the looks of the Spug miniatures, and everytime I see Froggy's examples I like them more. Must find an excuse to get back into 25/28mm skirmish gaming one of these days...
And as with a few people above, I badly want to see tighter closeups of those ships and have the painting technique described. There's a big flotilla of Full Thrust ships in the box by my feet needing attention!
-
Werelizard: I went through the process of the white above, but if you have more questions, feel free to ask :)
the 800x800 pixel limit made it hard to get any closer on the whole fleet, and didn't leave much room at the bottom for the individual shots.
In hindsight, maybe I should have entered a smaller fleet, but I like the look of a lot of ships together, and since that's the amount I painted that's what I went with. It's only a dent in the total fleet that is still in drydock ;)
I'm pretty sure I'm not allowed to post other pictures of them right now, but after it's done I could post the individual shots in their original size (before they had to get squeezed into the bottom remaining space).

I completely understand having a huge unpainted fleet with a fiddly scheme and being unable to get a good pic.
That said, if my Spugs had to lose (thoroughly(again)), this is an excellent team against which to do so.
