Post by: alligator9 on 29 March 2012, 09:06:34 AM
Hello,

during this period did the military battalions  have any special branch of service  arm badges unique to the Cheka or did they wear the infantry badge/insignia ?

Pat.

Why repaint? The ChEKa wore normal uniforms in the RCW. (Those lovely ones with the green tabs are later.)

ChON are more useful from a wargames point of view and were better troops too. That's because they were actually selected as elite units, whereas ChEKa troops were just ordinary soldiers drafted to help with internal security.

Kursanty (officer cadets) are your other option for later elite.

Troops ChON - a militia composed of Communists. Their fighting qualities are not above the level of other militias. But this resistance in a battle to be high due to ideological fanaticism.

 Cadets - the undoubted elite.

Hello,

i like the information/ links that Cuprum posted, but still not sure about the insignia worn by the Cheka in the  1920-22 , (or earlier 1918-20) period.

Would they have worn the army branch arm insignia 1920-22 or had their own design?

Any arm badges worn 1918-20 ?

What about the blue  schlem  or the officers green crown/blue band cap,  used post 1922

or earlier ?

Specific differences for employees in the Cheka and other centralized services and divisions has been established. We used the same distinctions as in the rest of the army.
It is possible that somewhere in the field, such differences are no regulated, have taken place. But I trusted these cases is not yet known.
But there is a lot of mention of a very unusual colors of uniforms in the usual linear military units. Recently read in the memoirs of the Red soldier received a description of his detachment uniforms - red Budyenny helmets for ordinary soldiers and black with large red stars - for the commanders. In addition, all the commanders were issued leather jackets. Picturesque got an army  ;)
