Title: Materials used to mod a mega blok ship? - Edited
Post by: Rocktroll on 05 April 2012, 01:55:19 AM
Let me try this again, this morning I posted a little to early and it seems was still half asleep as half this post sounds like rambling :)

I apologize if this is not the correct forum to post this in.

Hi every one, I have been lurking on your forums for a week now reading through your many impressive customs. I decided this is exactly what I would like to attempt. I will try to customize some Mega blok ships into 28mm scale for a game I play called heroscape.

I have read a lot of guides and tutorials on this topic, but some of these guides are a few years old and I was uncertain if the materials used are still available or the best ones out there, and I would like to ask for some help in choosing the materials used for these projects.

It seems that the main items needed to convert these models will be

Plasticard
Plasticard with planking /floor board design
28mm Cannons
Some accessories like anchors, wheel, maybe ships bell
Cloth for the sails.

I read some where online I could go to Walmart and buy some "FOR SALE" signs to use as plasticard. Not sure if this is the correct thickness I will need but I will give it a shot.

I am not sure what to buy for planking / decking.  The suggested Wills plastic sheeting  SSMP201 'Planking' sounds perfect but the shipping is a little high since it will be ordered from the UK and mailed to the US. I found some decking / wood effect plastic sheets sold over here but they come in different sizes and not sure which would look good for a 28mm ship. Plastruct sells sizes 1/64, 1/16, 1/4, and 5/32 in 7.5' X12' Sheets. Each sheet will cost me about $6-$7. Another brand here is called JTT 1:100 HO Scale and JTT1:200 and go for about $5 a sheet.

Any suggestions or should I stick to the suggested Wills Plastic Sheeting?
Thank you in advance for any help in this :)
