I bought and assembled 8 Macross Regult pods (Nichimo 1/200 scale) a long time ago and they have been languishing in the attic for a good five years or so but a bout of boredom caused me to dig them out (Grymn is there for scale):

After I turned them over in my hands for a while, I decided that they looked a bit gangly so I have been slowly converting them and have got the first four almost finished:

I still need to tidy a few details up and then do the other four but I think the shorter legs suit them much better.
I will be putting together a small jungle patrol with these mechs and about the same number of Grymn so green and yellow will be the colours of choice.
Should be fun :).

Wow! Kudos to you! I've one of those, and assembling it is a real pain! But those pieces are great!
(wait, probably i've a different version, with like 2 thousand parts)
love also the conversion on the legs!

I wish I had a stash of pods in the attick...
Fits the Grymn better with the leg coversion.

I was always in two minds about these pods because they were so gangly. I only confirmed my theory once I had bought and assembled them...and that is why they ended up stashed away.
Initially, I din't know what to do with them and I didn't want to start chopping them up because they were getting rare. Once I dug them out of the attic, it seemed obvious what I needed to do so that is why I bit the bullet and started chopping... and I am glad I did because they have improved (in my mind) a whole bunch and actually look more correctly proportioned now (even though, they are made up and don't have a 'proportion' to get correct...I think it is the aesthetics...).
Anyway, they are all chopped down now and are just getting all of their screws covered up or removed and the holes being filled in.
Now all I need is a bunch of bases for them :) (Heresy miniatures, 50mm I think).
-
I decided I couldn't wait for bases so it will be plasticard for now. Here are the eight finished pods with some Grymn troops to look after:

It will make a nice change to paint some green :) .

I like those Grymn conversions. Better pics?

They are wet at the moment but once they have dried, I'll get a pic or two :) .

Seeing as you like hats...here is something I made earlier:

I've seen an awful lot of your stuff from FoD, you're one of the guys who encouraged me to try getting better :3
And those hats look even better 8D

Roughly base-coated but a pic taken to show off a selection of the hats:

Nice conversions on the pods, they do look much better like that.
That hats are damned fine too, easy to make a hat look massive if you get it wrong.
These look spot on!
-
great stuff! Love the 'boonies' and the reversed caps!

Did you trim the heads down any before sculpting the headgear?

To be honest, I can't remember. I know that I chopped the top off the beret heads but these...I'm not sure (it was 4 years ago and I have converted a LOT of miniatures since then).
-
Well they sure make my grymn look positively boring in comparison.
Love that Forage cap and the Boonie kind too.

I love what your doing with the pods, but as a guy who's spent much money finding those pods for a Macross game it pains me some.
Great looking Grymm.
-
I can understand that :) .
I have had many occasions when there is something I want to get hold of (normally Vulkan Battlesuits) and they either get sold, or I see them shown off as finished products.
I have a couple of the Xabungle Trad11 mechs in 1/144th scale that I want to convert BUT, I am a bit wary because they really are difficult to get hold of now...and I don't want to mess them up.
The Regult Pods are still pretty frequent visitors to E-Bay... it just depends on whether you can afford them or not. Over the weekend, I even saw a set of 3 Nichimo 1/200 kits (each box containing 2 kits): Glaug, large missile regult and small missile regult and if it wasn't for the £75-00 price tag (£44-00 of that was postage from US to UK :o ), I would have snapped them up...but alas, an hour after I spotted them they were gone so I never had the chance to even think about it.
As an aside, the troops that are being painted to go with my pods are really getting there. There shouldn't be too much more to go on them so I think there will be some pix by the end of the week...then I'll start the pods (I may under-coat them while the troops are drying...).
-
The troops are now finished:

I can start the pods now :) .

I couldn't help painting this one up as a 'path-finder' for the little junglie group:

And I've started to paint the first of the pods:
