Title: NVA & VC Main force vehicles
Post by: Old Goat on April 10, 2012, 11:13:19 AM
Morning all,

Any ideas on where to start getting hold of resin for said period and protagonist?

Best as always, Goat.

To suit which size of figures?

Not my period, but as far as I know vehicles weren't something the NVA used in the South until later in the war (1968>?) and then with one or two exceptions, only against the South Vietnamese. Jeeps and trucks were used on the Ho Chi Minh trail and North of the DMZ they had the usual range of T55, PT76, BTR-40 and BTR-152 vehicles in use. I'm not certain about the BTR-50, but the current Vietnamese Army has them, so maybe.

28mm is the scale.

Got a whole bunch of FoA's kit but they are on hold so looking elsewhere now.

Many Thanks.

I shall start digging around again.

Best, Goat

I'm not sure how they will be off for stock, but Wargames Command Post (http://www.thewcp.co.uk/) carry FoA vehicles. Company B (http://www.companyb.biz/) are in the process of doing a BTR-40 and a BTR-152. Sloppy Jalopy (http://www.sloppyjalopy.com/) have their own and the old Chieftain Range of vehicles, which they are releasing slowly.

There's a card stock BTR-50 out there somewhere and yes they were used in 1972 and 1975, sorry can't recall who makes it. London War room make a PT-76 as does Solido in diecast.  If you have reasonable sctachbuilding skills you could even scratch a BTR-50 using the resin hull of a PT-76.

If you search ebay for T-55 you will find lots of superbly detailed ones circa 1/55 scale and they are cheap as chips. If you are really anal about it, it's a very easy convert to a T-54 or Type 59.
