I finished my other test purchase from the Reaper Bones line, a lovely big Gnoll.
This has had a little conversion. I swapped the flail it came with for a spare sword from a pack of Foundry ogres because a) I found the flail just slightly too bendy, and b) I think the sword looks better when paired with the shield. The plastic cuts really easily and cleanly, and takes superglue and greenstuff very well.
I am very happy with this fella, a big nasty looking monster for absolutely peanuts. :)
One small caveat - take care with the mouldlines. If you don't clean them off properly before you paint they come back with a vengeance. There's one on his right leg, by the tail, that just refused to die for me. Think I just about got away with it though...

Great work Rob, lovely paintwork. Not quite sold on the mini though ??? I think perhaps the head looks a little small and it is saying more Hyena than Gnoll?

Lovely job, your painting is great!!!!

That's what I thought too, Gnollyena?

Thanks for the comments. :)
Yeah, as far as I can see, all the Reaper gnolls are based on hyenas. I really like the look, but then I don't know what a gnoll is supposed to be anyway since I was never into D&D. Looks big, and mean and a little bit scavengey*, which I think is quite effective but I can see they aren't to everyone's taste.
*That's not a real word. I made that up. You can use it for a pound.

That's a great word, Gnoll is made up too but not sure if it isn't based on Gnoll-EDMONDS? He's got a shaggy mane lol
The more I look at the figure the more I like the painting!
-
PS is that a pund a time or a pound for life? ;)

Pound a time. ;)
Hmmm, according to a quick wiki search, a gnoll is half gnome and half troll (cf Lord Dunsany), but in D&D they have always been portrayed as hyenalike. But they have reddish fur, so I got that wrong.
I dunno. I likes 'em. If they do more in placcy I'll fill me boots on 'em. :)

Very nice - colour choices work really well.
Sounds like the Reaper Bones line has been a big hit from other posts I've seen.

How big is he Bob?
I've got these guys:

Though I'm not sure they'd fit...

Ogre sized on a 40mm base.
They'd probably be ok with a matching paintjob. :)
-
Love the model and the paint job is tits! :-* :-* :-*

As an occasional lurker over at Frothers, I am amused by the gname of the gnoll. :D
I like that the Bones figures are on real bases, too, not slotta-crap.
-
Gnobrott, really? My players would take that and run with it if I gave them anything that obvious.
'His knob is what now?'
Really nice paintjob and replacing the flail has just made that mini even more awesome :)
-
The mini is awesome. Exactly how I've always pictured gnolls. Okay, the head might be slightly too small but I think the overall effect is fitting, as the creature appears a lot more savage that way. And I like the choice of colors as well. As far as I remember gnolls usually inhabit dry steppes and hills so the fur color looks about what I would expect from a creature living there. Nice work!

Actually I thought Gnolls were supposed to resemble jackals. That aside, that is a TERRIFIC looking mini made even better by some outstanding brushwork & basing...VERY WELL DONE!
