Gents
just to advise i will be doing the Franco Prussian War in 40mm
.......this will be a labour of love as the figures will be super-detailed
the first off the blocks being a Grenadier of the French imperial Guard
with every item of equipment highly detailed down to eagle stamps
and buckles..!!.....awaiting the srrival of the green.............followed by
other French troops then some Prussian Adverseries.

Hi Ged
Thats sounds really happening,
but i am not sure what a turo is.
-
i am not sure what a turo is.
That's a Turco, or tirailleur algérien. Part of the French army of Africa :

Thanks Arthur,
I love the crazy strides,
Ali Baba meets Lenny Henry, very funky.
Should make some psychedelic painting.
Were they an elite unit?

Were they an elite unit?
You could call them that, yes. Generally speaking, the Armée d'Afrique troops were among the toughest and most experienced in the French army in the 19th century. As such, they were often used outside of North Africa wherever crack troops were needed, from Mexico to modern Vietnam.

great input Arthur............appreciated
