Title: Relics painting blog (update 16.02)
Post by: Relic on 15 April 2012, 04:45:09 PM
I've been quite busy lately, but been able to paint up a few genestealers for my rogue trader 15mm project. Also I started to make some scenery and I will post some pics here. More stuff about my projects can be found on my blog if someone wants to follow. But you will find pics from here also.

First the stealers which are 15mm in size and are the GW genestealer familiars. One is a Khurasan space demon that I will use as the core of the stealers. Not all the highlights show since I couldnt take better pictures with the lighting I have.

The setting for my games will be around a planet which has the technology level similar to the  medieval earth. This way I can build scenery usable also in my fantasy games.

Here's the villages centerpiece which the good villagers have built..

A little update.

I painted some Squats (Rebel miniatures sons of thunder) using RT traditional colors. I'm just now painting 3 more to complete the squad.

Here's a close shot of one Genestealer

and a group shot with all the finished terrain pieces and minis whose bases I had redone st this point.

Here's closeups of the well

after these pics were taken I added some bushes and flowers to the well base. Looks much better now.

more to follow..

Fun project! I love the old RT and this is the first time I've come across a 15mm version of it. I will definitely follow this.

These one's would go well with the old Rogue Trader setting.

Also Criticalmass games do some very nice pieces too.

Also spotted these which would look good for a more rundown area.

Those look easy enough to do by myself. Those critical mass. buildings were very nice also. Thanks for helping out :)

A little update

Ork hut painted. It only took a year or so :) Also a few "action" pictures of my not-genestealers and not-squats. More stuff in my blog.

I had a problem choosing the adobe coloring and I ended up painting with 40k 2nd ed. style -> bleached bone with some brown staining. Too  "white" for my taste and I will try to figure out a better scheme for the next 2.

any ideas are welcome!

What did you expect?  ;)

Great work!
It's interesting to see the Khurasan figures with the 'Stealer colors. Although I think they'd rather look more like Hormagaunts.
Guessing from the building, Orks are next?

Hehe :p well.. Nothing more tbh

Yes orkses are coming!

First a few epic termies for another game :)

I will be using the khurasan aliens with guns as hormagants.

Thanks for the comments mate. Always good to get feedback and tips

Guns? That'll make them Termagaunts IIRC ;)

Looking forward to the Terminators. One of my first attempt of painting was a T. Squad for Epic...

Post by: Relic on 07 September 2012, 07:59:43 PM
..I mixed them, yes that would be termagaunts. I dont play 40k so I forgive myself :p

I played epic back in the 90's. A while ago I got one of those nostalgic moments and bought too many figs :p now I need to get some painted up and think some rules which to use.

Have you thought about using Alternative Armies Retained Knights for Space Marines? They also do them in 15mm.

Title: Re: 15mm Rogue Trader project (update 3.9)

Well yea I thought of them, but I will use these from Khurasan
(http://khurasanminiatures.tripod.com/ttc1004.jpg) (with some converting)

I already have tried to do some conversion jobs for one figure which were supposed to be a chaplain or chaos marine.

I have a pretty clear vision what I want to do but I just don't have enough time :P. Also I have a bad habit of jumping between projects all the time..

Wow, these look fantastic! Good job on that Marine Chaplain too.  :-*

Another good source of figs for Marines might be Critcal Mass Games?

Hmm which CMG minis you had in mind?
Title: Re: 15mm Rogue Trader project (update 3.9)
Post by: Major_Gilbear on 19 September 2012, 01:37:48 PM
I was thinking Arc Fleet Heavy Drop Troopers, and possibly the Arc Fleet Augments.

Protolene Scout Khan Ayame could make a decent Dreadnought if you change the legs a bit.

Lighter Arc troops could make good scouts.

Also, for ther Imperial forces (like Imperial Guard), you're pretty much spoiled my many manufacturers anyway, but I thought that Merc Vadorian Assassins would be a good basis for a variety of Imperial assassins.

yup some of those CMG figures would suite the purpse. I personally just don't like their poses. But what I really like are those Vadorian Assassins. Just like you said, perfect for used as assassins!

A quick update

Crimson Fist biker almost ready. Still needs some weathering and the base needs to be finished.

after I've finished this and a sergeant figure, I will paint a standard bearer and a couple of regular marines. I hope that the painting speeds up ...

YES YES I AM SORRY :D... I have been keeping a pause from the 15mm project... I bought a HUGE pile of epics and now I feel like painting them. You know what it's like :). Gazillion of projects on going all the time :)

and that OSL was my first try ever :P. Isn't it best to practice with the small scales like 6mm :D. Should I try wet blending to the marine armor next :P

Should I try wet blending to the marine armor next :P

Hey, why not? I've seen what some people can do at 6mm scale (I can only manage eyes, but other folks can do the whites as well!), so it seems quite rational to me!  ;D

*Just don't tell my missus that!

Gosh, i totally missed the thread! and i recognize the style of some of the scenery! ;) Great job, on both scenery and miniatures! It is one of those ranges i really wanted to fall into, but I always resisted...

You made me so envious:

Nothing is popular in the Europe's scraphouse. Actually, i live in the second biggest city and i don't know ANYONE playing games that is not WH or 40K. Even epic, even if GW, would be loved ^^"

One more terminator marine almost ready. Only the assault cannons barrel needs black dots for barrels.

Some conversion has been done to build the weapon and the purity seal. The ruin piece is a plaster copy I made.

Here we go

Next one is a heavy flamer terminator.

Cool conversion! The only conversion I've dared on the Epic Terminators was giving the Sarge a Power Sword....
How did you do the Assault Cannon?

Thanks :)

I took the barrel from imperial sentinel. Then I used brown stuff to get it in place and to look like an assault cannon. Also there's a small piece of plasticard as an ammo box (doesn't show well since it's painted red).

All in all a very straightforward work.

Here's a wip pic from assault cannon and heavy flamer
