Title: Crusader Gladiators
Post by: philhendry on April 15, 2012, 10:45:07 PM
Hi Guys,

Not my best ever figures, but they're reasonably colourful, and I'm relieved to have finished them - now I can gte back to my ancients rules, and hopefully get on and publish them soon!

All bar the horses are painted my usual way - white primer, bright basecoats and then 'dip' painted on.  Some items - like the shields - received some highlighting before the dip.  The horses had a 'pin-wash' of a pale grey in the shadows, and some detail painting.  The harness was 'dipped' with a No.1 brush.

Sorry, this last one isn't very good - white horses on a white background doesn't make for good photography.

These look great. Nice colours. Just about to embark upon my own gladiator project and was looking at the Crusader stuff, your work has inspired me to take the plunge.

Don't sell yourself short.
Fine looking figures.
I would be happy to have them on my table.

Beautiful.  I'm bookmarking this as a reference for when my gladiator painting day comes.  Richard

Phil, very pleased to see you trying on the Gladiators. This is a lovely bunch, like the way you did the armour, looks nice. And your productivity is as always stunning :)

Very nice! I would not think dipping would provide such clean results. Thanks for the inspiration. I must get some of those!  :o :o :o

BTW tell us about those hex bases, solid plastic? Where to buy?

Very very nice. I'll be looking at yours for inspiration when I get to my gladiators. You have really nice clarity between metal types.

I was thinking of selling my Crusader Gladiators but you've convinced me to hang onto them...

Phil, those are simply marvelous! I, too, will be looking back here for inspiration when I get around to finishing off the last of my own!

Thanks Lads!

The bases are laser-cut MDF, and can be obtained from Warbases or Pendraken.

I also think they look excellent.

The bases are a change from the usual round or square - what rules do you plan on using them with?

That is probably the best example of dipping that I have ever seen.
Excellent result.
