Title: 40K Compatable Civilian Vehicles
Post by: Weird WWII on April 17, 2012, 03:38:30 PM
Who makes some civilian vehicles (ie cars and trucks) that are compatible with the look of 40K's Imperial stuff?

Let me know if you got any leads,
Brian

Worth taking a look at Ramshackle Games too.

We used the Marx cars as inspiration for our web-comic:
http://rsquaredcomics.com/yva/1/?page=10

It would really depend on the tech level of whatever planet you were on. I don't think you'd see Ramshackle stuff in the same place as Antenocitis vehicles. You might try making some yourself or finding cheap toys that could be repainted.

Does regular primer stick to the Marx cars?

The marx cars are hard plastic and will take paint very well. I primed mine with cheap Walmart-brand spray on primer.

Thanks for the info.   Might have to pick some of those up.

Civilian vehicles aren't a huge problem. Compatibility with Imperial aesthetic is. Most good civvy vehicles available for the scale aren't nearly angular and riveted enough and in any case they needz moar skullz! Ramshackle would be my suggestion as well, most other stuff needs quite a bit of work to "imperialize".

Thanks for the help guys!  Gotta get some Chaos cultist technicals going so my Space Marines can blow them back to the Warp!  Got some ideas for a "Thunderhawk Down" game and need civi stuff to fight with.

How about the Halo Warthog from Mcfarlane:

They are a good fit scale wise with GW figures and I've seen a couple conversions as IG sentinel proxies.

You might be able to pimp out these hover cars from Zombiesmith for the task:

If anyone's interested in two sets of barely touched Marx cars, I've got some I need to get rid of! PM me. :)

I might if they are going for extremely cheap... $12 the eBay seller was asking is a little steep I find, they would require so much work.

As to the subject itself, just noticed this on BoW:

Nicely angular and utilitarian, no guns in sight. Needz moar rivetz (and skullz) tho!

Well I pulled the trigger on some stuff from Ramshackle Games for use with my Slaanesh cultists:  I got a few Skeeta trucks to lug my cultist around and a couple Capybara Assault Tanks to bolster their firepower.  Both look like some pretty low-tech design which works for the back-water Imperial planet that is being corrupted by the God of Excess!  I'll probably convert the Capybara's big gun into some sort of Sonic Cannon which falls in line the the forces of Slaanesh in 40K.  Probably go with the future car from Antenocitis Workshop for the Imperial Governor's ride and just give the everyday folks a horse drawn wagon.  That'll show the disparage between the classes which causes the willful embrace of Slaanesh on this planet in the first place.

Anyway, thanks for the heads up buds,
Brian

The problem is that vehicle is 1/144th scale. It is cool, but certainly won't match GW stuff.

True, it is 1/144. But have you seen the size of this thing ?
I reckon it could easily pose as a bigger scale vehicle.
You'd have to shut the cargo door though, or specify the driver is lying on his belly, steering this thing.

Quite - judging by the gear seen standing by it's side in the pic, it would almost certainly be quite able to pass for a 28mm scale vehicle. The cockpit is admittedly a bit of a problem but it might be fairly easy to cut it off and add half-an-inch of stuff between the lintel of the cargo hatch, depending on the material and actual structure of the thing.

ETA: the new pix show that Barnaby's got "a gear inside" which makes the cockpit problem a little immaterial as you can't use it with the front hatch open in a Wh40k setting anyway. No rear pix but maybe you can transfer the hatch there and put some kind of plate in its place on the front.

I don't know, Scurv.  If you look at the cab, only the weight of the driver/passenger are in front of the wheel.  The rest, which probably has the engine, sits over the front wheel.  Plus, I would assume you'd mostly be carrying/towing a load so it wouldn't dip (But it could empty).

Anyway, Rams got great crazy designs-I doubt he's going for real world application :D

I have three sets of these lined up for populating my sci-fi city.  I would like to be able to put something opaque into the window areas before I paint them though as the empty windows look a little funny.

I have been trying to think of quick ways to do this for the my six roofed cars, but I am coming up blank.  Have any of you managed to come up with something?

Transparent sticky-backed plastic (contact paper to the USAnians) perhaps?

I have some that I use as burnt out hulks, but you might try dark blue transparency sheets.  (If they still make them, I haven't seen a transparency projector in years)

Have you looked at the old adventure 2000 range of vehicles? I have a load of them. they are quite effective once sprayed with some radiator paint and are cheaply found at car boot sales or on Ebay.
