Very timely -- I'm about to start a ruined town and was considering how to make craters.  Thanks.  :)

I make mine using plaster, just pour some onto a piece of plastic sheet add rubble (made from breaking pieces of left over casts) while it is still wet, shape it how you want it and leave it to dry for 15mins, once dry the crater can be seerated from the plastic sheet and hey presto one bomb crater

i use this method because its quick easy looks good and you can make it any size and shape you like
