Two great entries guys.
Dr matthias, how did you make that bamboo? It looks awesome :o
-
Wow!
Nice work with foliage Dr. ;) (and the painting of course :)).
-
The patterns on the Chinese clothes are amazing. And those eyes....!
Mike Demana

Great googly-moogly - awesome minis Dr. - made me smile - the local samurai militia pwns!
-
:'( Oh well, it had to happen eventually ;)
Awesome orientals Doc :-*
-
Yes, how did you model the bamboo? Also, are they Perry figures?
-
Both are totally stunning! Brilliant.
-
Great painting Bugsda. Is that two different Sherlock and Watson pairs, both Foundry? I only have one of those sets...

Thanks! The stalks are made with a combination of floral wire, electrician's heat shrink tubing, and some plastic plant that is turned upside down. The joints between segments are just painted on.
I'll have to do a tutorial as it is kind of difficult to describe and I think you need a specific plant type. I may have a frond or two left over. I could always use more bamboo...
Also, are they Perry figures?
The figures are from Kingsford, from the Ikko-Ikki and Sohei packs. Overall really nice figures. They're a bit larger than Perry and the hands on some are awkward. The detail and clarity of the lacing, and well sculpted, characterful faces are what I really like about them.

Thanks for your quick reply! By the way, are the bases 20mm or 25mm round?

By the way, are the bases 20mm or 25mm round?
They're labeled as 25mm round. They're actually solid plastic bases from Wargames Factory. I used them because the Kingsfords have integral bases and putting them on a slotta would raise them a little too high, a metal washer like I use on most of my historicals is too thin. My oriental fantasy stuff is on slottas, so I went with a compromise. I think they blend in with other base types I use pretty well. I wish I had used the WF bases on a lot of my older stuff too- the thickness is just right IMO.

Gadzooks, what a match-up! :o

First pic= :o
Second pic= :o
Well butter me in mustard and call me Colin. I am so in awe. The standard of these is majestic and both entries fully deserve all the praise and admiration I am convinced they shall recieve.
Now the tough stuff. How do I choose?

Another commision or are these up for grabs Bugs? Not that I can afford your southern prices ;)
-
Oh Blimey!!! :o
-
I am writing that down before voting. 1 of 5 pairs I put behind for more consideration!
The brown and blue tones of that detectives is just awesome, but then again ... this Japanese theme?
... hm ...

the detectives made it ... though it is in comparison a very puristic photo (just the minis) it maybe is the reason why I liked it so. The bright colours (a "not so dull"-brown and a "very cool violettish"-blue/grey) from bugsda had their noses ahead for me!

A commission mate, they're long gone, across the sea to the new world :)
Didn't you mean to say "soft" southern prices lol

Yep! Both pairs with a Moriarty thrown in for good measure ;)
-
Love them Chris. I like the Doc's entry a great deal too. Really thought this one would be a bit closer. Two great entries, different styles, but I found it very hard to choose.
-
Bugsda your entry would normally thrash most of the other entries in this round
the vote doesn't reflect how good they are
Dr Mat, you look to be unstopable I think and I reckion this is your best entry to date for me

A tutorial on the bamboo would be great, thanks in advance!

Two fantastic contributions! And thank you for the short bamboo- tutorial…very helpful for me!
-
Very cool detectives Bugsda, your painting is clean as always but I was particularly impressed by Dr. Mathias' patterning on the clothing, those flowers look just right!
-
Brilliant entries. Can we vote for both?
