Hi all,
This is a new release by Cavalcade for the Dark Mariner force in the ShadowSea game This figure is available now from their site although the painted version is not up yet (http://cavalcadewargames.com/cavalcade/home.html). These are the light amphibious troops of the Dark Mariners, meant for quick strikes on land before the heavy weaponry can slither up out of the water. They are less mutated than their cousins, so they move much more easily on land, but still need to remain near water or carry water with them in their helmets or on the their backs.
As with the beastman, this model was done quickly, using a zenith priming technique to give basic shadows and highlights. The first coats of paint were thin light colors, bone, light blue, etc. After that is was thick layers of ink and matte medium, mixed with some paint. The final highlights were done quickly with golden bone color, only on edges or spikes. Once one gets the hang of this style it goes really quickly. The only layered part was the skin, which was based with light blue, washed with dark blue ink, then highlighted with layers of light skin tone, then glazed with ogryn flesh wash (GW).

Here is how the model looked after the base coats. Very simple thinned opaque paint to start, before applying ink+paint+medium in thick layers. The wash for the carapace, for example, is burnt sienna ink + Indian yellow (Golden Fluid Acrylics) + Liquitex Matte Medium.

VERY COOL in a creepy sort of way...that Lad could lower the value of beach front property single handedly. VERY WELL DONE!
-
Looks terrific as well, the paintjob really suits the feel of the model.

Another great piece.Loved the concept art for these which was out a few years back now.Nice to see the range growing again.

Added his partner in crime, the Raider Taskmaster. There to "encourage" the others in the warband.

Thanks for the group shot.Great painting and the bases are good too.Do you have the others from the range to paint too? When will these pieces be due out?
-
I have one more Dark Mariner, then three more beastmen.
The two smaller guys are already available. The Immolator is not out yet. I'm hoping Cavalcade will get the rest up soon. Painted photos always help.

Just seen a green posted on Frothers of one with what looks like a harpoon gun.Seeing the whole lot together would be great.
Are the other Beastmen by Kev Adams?
-
All the other beastmen are by Kev also. The greens have been around for a couple of years actually. Here is the old page showing the greens. http://shadowsea-game.blogspot.com/p/gallery.html There are a couple more I have that are not shown there.
The one with the harpoon gun is actually holding a lightning gun. I'm trying to get Cavalcade to fix the description. I don't actually have that one to paint, so it will be a while before it gets done.

Lol, Andy's picturing them pitted against his sea-demons!

Interesting stuff!

Great paintjobs!
Love this line. Just curious, is it going to be technological, what with plasma weapons, or more fantasy?

SCi-fi, there are atlanteans in power armour and stuff coming (least I think it's the same range...)

It's definitely a mix of tech and fantasy. I would not call it steampunk, more like alternative history sci-fi/fantasy.
