By far the best pics of the actual product I've seen.

I think you've given a fair assessment of these.  And quite honestly I think Defiance games is hitting their target audience with these.

Too bad one can't order smaller unit sizes than 24.  I could use a few as filler units, but certainly wouldn't need two dozen of them.

Nice, thorough review. I personally agree with just about everything that was said as it's been my experience painting and assembling a few.

Matakishi,

Thank you for a well written and concise review. I now have a very good idea of what to expect when my box of Defiance Marines lands in my mailbox.

A honest review, thanks!

Actually, if it wasn't for the design that i don't like, i'd give them a try!
Probably i'd go for the germy, the design looks much more interesting!

A good review as always, but the product still doesn't do anything for me. Will have to see if any of the future releases does - I'm particularly waiting for the Chinese.

Meh... My argument has remained the same all along. For the price of a box of Defiance UAMC I can get a section of Stargrunt figs from GZG. 24 plastic minis that I'm not going to get around to painting, or 8-10 gorgeous metal figs that will see so much more time both being painted and then on table.

These are cheap dippers that need to have a head swap as bad as hippies need haircuts. The fact I need to purchase 24 after market heads to make a half decent figure kills the cheap aspect and then pinning 24 metal heads to plastic bodies kills all the cheerful.

Might I recommend Warlord Games? Eyeballing it, I think the Warlord heads would work well on these, especially the new US Infantry heads would complete the Colonial Marine look.

Reading through this thread and that other one , I notice nobody has said anything disparaging about the belt pouches .

Heads , torso , arms , legs and weapons, yes ,  but not the pouches .

This must be very encouraging for them .

I'll jump in.  Not even close to enough pouches and other kit to represent troopers with a basic combat load of ammo let alone all the other 'stuff' troopers must have with them.

A very good review. Well said and even handed.

Unfortunately I have to disagree with you. From the pictures you took I think I'll be buying a box. I've seen far worse. I've spent time assembling far worse, and I'm sure I will again. As for whether the kit is accurate, or the proportions for that matter, it doesn't bother me. I've seen some amazing painters turn simple fare into priceless works of art, and I've seen some competent painters ruin very expensive, very detailed miniatures. As long as they don't cost an arm and a leg I'll give them a try.

The poor helmeted heads kill it for me. If there isn't a decent face then it's a non-starter.
Currently I'm doing up some old plastic Cadians as cheap and cheerful Dalek opponents and there isn't anything here to make me think "Drat! Wish I'd got these instead."
