Title: Stagecoach for Highwayman Games?
Post by: Pappa Midnight on October 06, 2006, 06:19:05 PM
Does anyone know where I can get a stagecoach ( not wild west!) for use with 28mm highwaymen?
I can find miniatures but not a coach.

I have not seen them in a while, but in craft stores or places that sell items for weddings, you can find cheap plastic coaches, usually in clear plastic that paint up nicely. I have not looked for actually metal coaches so I'm not sure if there are any out there.

Redoubt has a metal one, with passengers for the Musketeer era or the ECW era.

Thanks for the quick response!

I've had a look at the plastic wedding coaches. They may be a little big being about 3" high, but would probably be good for larger scale stuff. That's an excellent find! I would have never thought of it!

The Redoubt coach is very nice , a little too early possibly but thanks for the heads up. I'll do some more research for the period.

I like the GW coach but can't find it on their site! Is it a scratch build or a bought kit?

I hadn't thought of it, but black powder era zombies sounds interesting...... Zombie Highwaymen......Your money or your BRAINS!!!!!

And yes I have downloaded the lite version of GLOIRE ( awaiting the main rules) and have been bitten by the swashbuckling bug ( rather than the T Virus)

What figures are you going for I can only think of Outpost and Gladiator or using the Abbots miniatures smugglers?

I have fancied this for a while and am sorely tempted by Gloire but will have to hold off until my pennies are saved

The Foundry have some packs of Highwaymen and C18th civilians on their website that are new.

They even have one referred to as the "Dandy Highwayman" who bears a passing resemblance to Adam Ant. - Remeber Stand and Deliver!  Yes I am that old!

Doing some calculations on this "curse you PM" if you went for Outpost the whole range and a game (minus a carriage) could be had for £34.50 plus the Gloire rule book bargain 8)

I converted a couple of Dixon carriages to use as Victorian coaches:

I know you said no Wild West but after a bit of modification perhaps?

Prof: I really do like that GW coach , but at £25.00 in the UK it's a little expensive for what it is.I finally found it on GW UK site.

LTG: It was OUTPOST miniatures that set me off with this ( you been in my mind again?). Has anyone seen these minis. There are some small pictures on their site , but they're not very clear. I might order some samples and see them in the "flesh". If they are any good I'll probably order the lot!

Lurch:I love those foundry minis! I will be keeping an eye open for their release!

Malamute: What can I say...? VERY NICE work as always. I'm not sure about the time scale ( I was looking for 18th century rather than Victorian, although I can't see a huge difference in coach design, so I may blag it!)

Thanks Guys

Pappa Midnight.-  I know what you mean about the difference between  C18th - C19th carriages.

However I Googled some images and to me it was hard to tell the difference.

If you take the example of the Dixon stagecoach. Once you remove the baggage rails from the roof, the long brake handle and and anything else that looks too Old West then you have a basic shell. With a new driver and an alternative colour scheme it could pass for most periods.

I have seen those Outpost figures in the flesh and In my opinion they are somewhat crude.

I was considering a similar project several years ago and I had in mind Front Rank figures for the militia/government forces and their C18th civilians. Some foundry pirates coverted to highwaymen and Westwind Sleepy Hollow figures for more civilians and armed militia.
GW does a lovely highwayman in the Mordheim range mounted and dismounted, but as you say he is probably too pricey!

I reckon if you phone Foundry you can buy all those figures. They quite often show stuff that doesnt appear to be for sale but one telephone call can make the difference.

Good luck with this, its an interesting project :)

I've ordered a "wedding" favor .At £1.00 each I thought I'd have a look. It may be a little oversize. If it is I'll use as a ghost coach for Horrorclix!!!
If this doesn't pan out I'll probably go for the Dixons Coach ( Thanks Malamute).

Hi Grimm,
It's pretty much like the other clix games ( about 90% similar to heroclix).
I don't really play it that much, although I have collected the entire set!
You can get a free copy of the rules here:
http://www.wizkidsgames.com/horrorclix/nextras.asp
Just click on "Pdf".
It is a little "basic" if you are used to playing more complicated skirmish games, but is ideal for a "quick game".

I just know that i'm going to hate myself for this, but ...

[takes deep breath]

The imminent release  :D of Galloping Major's Anglo/American Provincials has got me thinking about a Highwayman scenario with a stagecoach.

I'm realy enjoying skirmish type games and particular scenarios even more so

Did anyone follow up on those C18 stagecoaches?

Thanks

James

I can't believe no one's done this joke yet:

The Mel Brooks one was good though.

On a serious note, I've seen some good toy coaches when browsing the local stores.

Very nice but £25 seems quite expensive- almost on a par with the gamesworkshop one.

The outpost miniatures are really nice.
