Title: Soviet involvment in the SCW
Post by: Genialjim on 11 May 2012, 07:47:28 PM
Apologies if you read this twice as I have posted on LA and GWP.

I have a couple of questions on soviet forces in the SCW.

Firstly if using the now old style GW paints what would you suggest as uniform colours, I am thinking of painting the Empress Soviet advisors?

My second query is how did the Soviet Union employ the sailors that appear to have been sent to Spain? I am sure I read some where that there were at least 77 sailors sent to Spain. I am wondering if I can use my Bolt Action Soviet Naval Infantry bought for VBCW in SCW gaming?

Regards

Jim

Hi Jim.

I have to disappoint you. Soviet soldiers in Spain were not an official military contingent, so the Soviet military uniforms they wore. They were dressed the same way as other soldiers-internationalists. Could be used only "technical" clothing designs are supplied with military equipment (armored helmets, armor suits, Leather clothing, pilot helmets and jackets).

Cuprum is right. Tanks and aircraft were one thing, but recognisably Soviet troops would have been an immense propaganda failure and played into fears of a 'Soviet Spain' amongst the western European powers. Soviet troops etc wore either civilian clothes or Republican uniforms, dependant on their role.
