The new UW faction that's been mentioned over here a couple of times recently is apparently gearing for release. The preorders should start at the end of this month and come with the massive perk that you'll get yours shipped a week before the general release date o_o
Other than that, it's a bit DefianceGamey still with only renders shown for the first troops to be released:

I still don't like the not-Cylon heads but otherwise they seem interesting enough. Like I said previously, it's nice to get the tactical powered armour back into the game finally, even if it's shifted from Viridians to this new faction (which seems to be at least as techy as the current Syntha, which is also a little weird but then it's UW's universe and not mine)...

UM's been keeping surprisingly quiet about this project. I knew it was delayed for a month or three a while back but otherwise it's been "mums the word". Took it to myself to look if anything on Neos has come up on their forum while I was on vacation and - lo and behold! - was rewarded with a few painted examples of actual minis:

The stat cards are apparently also up at their webshop, so maybe they are really going to come out soonish...

Not my cup of tea, but I am glad the company is still going.
-
Yeah, I think they look a bit bland compared to what's currently available from other companies.

Those feet...guys with size 3 shoes! And not a fan of those guns. They look unwieldy, unpractical and a bit too much like oversized nerf guns.
Nope, still not a fan of the direction UW has been heading to for years. Maybe because I played VOID 1.1 for years and still think most of their sculpts are superior to UW's sculpts.
-
I like the fact that their proportions are more realistic than "heroic" (including the smaller feet... lol )
The overall design is not to my taste though, it is pretty bland. Also, I bloody hate tabards, robes, loincloths, etc. on sci-fi miniatures that are supposed to be front line soldiers.
Very much a pass for me.

I havn't even read through the answers when NERF already came to my mind lol
Maybe one can saw/sand of the missiles of and place some raygun barrels there. IMHO they would make some pretty retro-trooper for Flash Gordon or something like that.
-
And why do they have a ships wheel on their back? lol
-
Sculpts look nicely done, but I'm with the rest - zero interest. They have a nice retro-ish vibe though. They look like they'd be in 80's Battlestar Galactica or something. That may be damning with feint praise though.
-
I actually like the NERF guns and the ship wheels... :?
Like I said, I'm less keen on the whole retro-Cylon look but the game already has scifi Romans and scifi Samurai so it does fit with the overall aesthethic of the UW universe. One suppose these are supposed to give off a quasi-Greek vibe.

The official, final, conclusive, we-mean-it-this-time release date for the Neo-Iskandarians has been set for October 1, this year:

We'll see... o_o
All the same, UM has declared that anyone who goes thumbs up on their Urban War Facebook page up until September 17 will participate in a prize draw for one of three sets of them. Go this way for the official news bit regarding the draw:

No slag, but I've been underwhelmed with UM for years. Definite pass.
-
In my opinion, the best stuff UM have put out were the Viridian troops and veterans and to be honest, as much as I liked them, they still had an 'old school' vibe about them.
The new Iskandrians are pretty cool but the heads are tiny and would need replacing. A lot of the other stuff is just a re-release of old stuff that is out of date really.
I am underwhelmed by their recent releases as well.
The way I look at it is why bother with UM and their re-releases when I can buy truck-loads of Void miniatures from E-Bay really cheaply and they compare, standards wise?

Missiles? I thought those were emitters. Emitters of entropy... ???
I like the sculpts, but as retro, and therefore needing re-arming. And, maybe rivets...

New Neo-Iskandarians are available, as well as a PDF only faction book for them:

Are these bigger than 28mm? Some of them are about $10 a piece...which is pretty damned pricey for a table top wargame. :?
-
They should be closer to 28mm than your average modern day "we say 28mm but mean 32mm" lines. In the sameish price category as Infinity I would think, which sorta makes sense considering UW's a "fire team level" skirmish game as well.
