Managed to fit in a quick game at our club this week and remembered to take some photos. The action involved the ambush of a Manchurian Railways train by a small force of Chinese regulars. A second force took up position in a nearby village through which any relieving force would have to come.

The ambushers had the better luck during the initial exchanges of fire and when the relief force arrived in front of the village they also suffered heavy casualties.
Later the luck began to favour the Japanese who routed the Chinese HMG and destroyed a unit of bandit cavalry.

Eventually the Chinese tried to assault the train but the Japanese defenders held on. Elsewhere, the relief force were sweeping through the village but their tank was attacked by an improvised Chinese anti-tank weapon

Victory was awarded to the Japanese players. We used the Triumph and Tragedy rules which gave a fast, fun game.

Nice one Colin.
-
Very original and looks like fun. I particularly like the anti-tank cart. :)
-
Good stuff guys.
its really great to see something completely different for a change.
-
Splendid stuff Colin, the Chinese A/T weapon is just brilliant.
See you at Partrizan next week, where I see you have something more a little different planned :)

The spar torpedo equipped wheelbarrow is inspired! Is that particular piece of insanity based on something that actually existed?
-
Great little action on a rather under looked theatre 8)
cheers

How did they pick the fool...er...brave hero who had to push the cart. The weapon looks as deadly to the user as to the enemy tank! lol

Super work for a period that is rarely seen in miniature gaming. Thanks for the report and photos.
The improvised anti-tank device is marvellous.
Cheers,
Helen

Really nice! :-* I have been interested in Japanese Manchuria for years and this is only the 2nd or 3rd time that I have seen it gamed. Would love to see more.

Clever, very clever.
Like everyone else love the anti tank weapon.
Great looking game.

Thanks for the kind comments.
The anti-tank chappie is the "Wheelbarrow of Doom" from Scheltrum Miniatures - http://www.scheltrum.co.uk/vsff3.html
I doubt very much if it is based on reality, but you never know. I think it is just the product of Sholto's vivid imagination.

Gorgeous looking game!

Nice, I think I just jumped into this period with buying some Warlord Bolt Action Japanese and realizing that Chinese uniforms changed very little so I can reuse my Chinese Warlord figs. I will probably also add in some of the Brigade Games Chinese in German Helmets.

Splendid!

Lovely stuff! :-*
Very nice. I'm surprised that Sino-Japanese War stuff isn't more popular.
