Title: Some Cannibals for this and that...
Post by: Jonas on May 22, 2012, 06:03:32 PM
I have begun painting some cannibals, which we are going to use this summer, for a pirate game. But I have been painting them very dark skinned, so they can move into African VSF after the pirates are done with them.

These two test miniatures is what I have managed today (besides basecoating a lot of stuff)

I can't really decide which scheme is best, I like the first because it have more colour, but I also like the second, because it has good contrast.

As usual my pics are not the best, so sorry about that.

The first is certainly more colourful, but the second looks more natural. How about doing them in two groups half with green and half natural. ;)

From my childhood:

A thousand hariy cannibles
Sitting down to lunch
Gobble, gobble
Gulp, gulp
Munch, munch, munch

I think I will do a mix.

There is 30 cannibals and 10 different poses, so I might as well do some different painting on the same posed miniatures.

This is how I found the lot.

This is the state they were in after I sorted them and ripped off their old bases.

Right now I am currently cutting and filing the integral bases and mounting them on the lasercut bases instead of the previous washers.

Looks good!

I thouhgt you were going to use skirmish trays and not rank and file trays. But hey - it all will look good probably!  :)

I will eventually, I just don't have any yet. So it is just random that these trays are used for now.

Looking forward to the painted tribal chief. I think, I've got that Old Glory model somewhere in my boxes but never seen it painted.

He is a decent model too, not all the cannibals are very good miniatures, but ok standard for Old Glory models.

Yes, they and the pirates belong to the better Old Glory stuff, got them many years ago, still have to find a way to use them for anything.

All models re-based on 25mm mdf bases, pictures will follow tomorrow. Next I will begin painting them in groups of 6.

I have sorted them in groups like this

1. 6 Cannibals with bows/blowpipes
2. 6 Cannibals with knives and throwing spears
3. 6 Cannibals with knives
4. 6 Cannibals with spear and shields
5. 6 Cannibals with spear and shields
6. Command group

I also have 3 canoes and some huts.

Good luck with those I had some cannibals once but they have all gone missing they must have eaten themselves into extinction.

Darkest Africa Fantasy stuff I guess. No real plans, I just wanted them to be done with.

I decided the bases are too big, so I will order some new next month and re-base again. At least I won't have to cut them off washers and integral bases all over  ::)
