After a busy week I finally got down to finish writing my review of Empire of the Dead - the new Gothic Horror game from West Wind.
Empire of the Dead is a 28mm campaign driven skirmish game which takes place during the last years of the 19th century (1888 to be exact). It comes with Gothic Horror and Steampunk influences and the story is telling about troublesome times plaguing Europe ever since the discovery of a new metal called “Infernium”. “Infernium” could be compared to Uranium in that very tiny quantities of this material contain huge amounts of energy which is used by the people in this universe to propel the technological advancement of the late Victorian era. The hi-tech advancement has reached the stage where such oddities as gyrocopters, steam powered constructs and tesla technology among other things are present.

(AAR's and Q&A interview with one of the authors are also coming up on the blog soon)

Vampire and Gentlemen boxes sold out in 2 days at my local game store, and there was only 1 box of Werewolves and 2 boxes of Brotherhood left! Don't know if this means that people just like the figs or if they are planning on playing, but I hope it's the latter! Will be playing my first game at Kublacon tonight...

When I emailed West Wind earlier this week and talked to Wendy who handles everything she said this game was the single most successful and popular product that they had ever released. I'm waiting for the Nosferatu, Victorian Zombies and Gentlemen myself. I think the Gothic Horror range was rich and full of character as it was, but the new additions are pretty awesome - and generic enough to use with other games if you want.

Awesome review!

Anatoli, that was a great review. Thanks heaps for that. Will definitely be buying a copy.

Glad you guys enjoyed/found it useful. Some EotD AAR's should be up on my blog tomorrow, still need to edit the pictures from those games and compile my notes :)

Thanks for the detailed game review Anatoli! :-*
I really tempted to buy these rules.
The only thing holding me back is the $50.00 USD.
I guess that's the going rate these days for a nicely published rule set.
I 'm just cheap. ;)

Yeah, I reckon this might be the first set of rules I've bought since Battlesystem and Future Wars...
Is the promo figure as good as it looks?
-
The promo miniature is pretty cool and can be used as either a regular Gentleman or Dr Erazmus special character for hire (from the addon PDF file).
I'm currently working on completing my last big army project before I take a plunge and paint up some of the new EotD miniatures. Luckily I already had a ton of Gothic Horror/Vampire wars models which I had used for Malifaux and Strange Aeons and could start playing immediately.

Thanks for the rules review.
Looks really cool.
I just have so many periods I am messing with,
do I add something else?
Love the figures I have seen.

I don't know about that Marine 0846. Your last Old West report could have used a few Vampires. :D

Its a spot on review mate - I didn't see the point of writing anything (as it would just be repeating what you had so eloquently put already).
Love the New Avatar btw!
