Title: What was I thinking <or> Bought EotD
Post by: obsidian3d on 10 June 2012, 07:09:44 AM
Traveling through the realms of cyberspace today I made an impulsive (but expensive) purchase, Empire of the Dead bundle 4.  Not satisfied with the rulebook, two bonus minis and all four starter sets, my credit card declared that I must also have the Holmes/Ripper demo rules pack, as well as a box of Victorian Zombies as well.

I'd been drooling over the EotD stuff ever since I saw some reviews and photos posted up on the boards here (I hold Anatoli solely responsible for bringing EotD to my attention! :P).  I guess buying the 3rd Edition rules for SuperSystem earlier in the day, and having amassed over a 100 new models last month to use for Strange Aeons wasn't enough.  How am I going to make EotD work in my schedule, while still also trying to play (not to mention paint) Hordes and 40k?

Wait, who cares?!  I've got dozens of new little lead friends winging their way to my home very shortly.  I honestly can't wait to give this game a go and that's all I really need to worry about! :D

How do EotD differ from the old, Gothic Horror rulesabout which many bear witness  they are rubbish? The setting and scope is about the same (if you want them to be) and a lot of the miniatures look about the same.

I really won't know for a few weeks I imagine, as I'm located in western Canada and my new goodies are winging their way to me from the UK.  I thought the sample rules for Empire of the Dead sounded pretty interesting, and the models look awesome.  I'd honestly never heard of West Wind Productions until about a month ago, so it's all new to me.

On the plus side, even if I decide that the EotD rules simply don't work for me, I know almost all of the miniatures will be able to find a place in games of Strange Aeons, so I'm not terribly concerned in that case.  I'll be certain to post up my thoughts on the rules, the game and the models once they arrive and I've had a chance to look them over!

Don't get me wrong, the WW miniature style is a bit cartoony but I am quite fond of them. I have painted several...

I think its pretty much orthodoxy that the Gothic Horror: The Vampire Wars rules were dreadful.  See my aged review at http://www.sfsfw.org/r/34/gothic.php (http://www.sfsfw.org/r/34/gothic.php) for why.

Well I just got a confirmation email saying that my order had shipped this morning.  I'm hopeful that they'll arrive before month's end!  We are going to try out the demo rules next weekend at the local shop with some stand-in models for Holmes, Watson and the rest.  Should be lots of fun.

Lovely. Any tips you can share on how you do your mossy trees and leaf litter?
