Hello everyone,
I'm new here ! I just discovered SAGA a few days ago, felt in love with it, and ordered some saxon warriors. Waiting for them, I decided to build them a little house, with foamcore, pieces of towel, and wood sticks.
Here is the result :

The model is a plastic celt model from Wargame Factory I just painted, to train for the "real saxon" :D
Hope you like it !

Wow, thank you everyone for your welcome :)
Now for the rest of the village. ;)
I now plan to build a bigger house with a removable roof and maybe a few like the one I already made, for a little scenery to present my anglo-saxon band.
how did you make it?
Here are a few WIP pics !
The main structure in foamcore :

I added a second layer for the roof :

I cut a few strips in a towel... :

...And glue it on the roof :

Then I just brushed the towel with diluted PVA glue(50% water, 50% glue), to put all the threads in the same direction. It takes a few hours to dry, then I just undercoated it with black spray paint, and painted it with a dark brown base and a few drybrushes.
I finally added the wood, made with ice cream woodsticks, and painted it.
English is not my native langage, dare to ask me if you didn't understand something ! ;)
And again thanks for your comments, that's really motivating !

Very nice work - well done.

Towel works nicely for thatch, and this is a fantastic example, very cleanly made!
The foamcore base is also very nicely done. I like the idea of putting an extra layer of material over the roof to smooth it out and give the thatch some bulk, too.
-
That is superb - and thank you for the tutorial.

Thanks guys ;)
A few WIP pics of a bigger house,a kind of saxon hall :

And a WIP of a little garden I started too :

I hope I can finish it all this weekend !

It's looking very nice so far!

Great stuff there, Yemi! Towel does indeed provide with very convincing thatch. Brilliant.
By the way... what is it you are using for your fences? Is that wire?
-
Are you weaving your own wattle? Oh, the patience you must have!
-
My little men are up in arms that I dont house them so well. Nice job!
-
Great house and lovely thatching!
-
Very nice work.
Thanks for the "working" pics. Such a simple method.
Cheers,

Yes that's "homemade" :) I use plastic strings that we used when I was kid to make "scoubidous" (the wikipedia link for those who don't know what I'm talking about, I know it was common in France, I don't know for other countries : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scoubidou (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scoubidou) )
It's pretty fast, it tooks about 30 minutes for the whole garden. Then, as Bezzo said, I coated with white glue to fill most of the gaps.
-
Thank you for the how-tos of the making of your buildings.
I use alot of the same materials you do,
but not as successful an outcome as yours.
Always great to learn new ways of making things.
-
Thank you Marine0846 ;)
Here is the big house :

The garden will be finished soon too !
See you soon :)

The house looks very nice! I'm looking forward to seeing the finished garden. :)

When you say you used towel for the thatch - is this a paper towel ? lovely job by the way.
