After another round of Playtesting "The Cult of Sutekh" (my Mummy Faction idea for Empire of the Dead), I need to do a couple of additional tweaks (and play some more) I shall then type it up and present it properly - then unleash it on the world!
-
Looking forward to it!
I'm following your various threads with interest...
As I too have made some slight tweeks for two of my new factions...
-
I have yet to play, but am looking forward to it. The only tough thing to proxy in my opinion is the hand-crossbows, of which there are very few miniatures available other than what's available in the boxes or the one Wolfenjaeger set.
What are your thoughts on kitting out your faction? What are the most effective weapon choices and combos for each faction? Is it worth giving a Graf a pistol, or is he better with a sword or barehanded?
-
This is a common debate actually - purists prefer their Vampires to be unarmed - but if you look at it from their perspective, surely they are going to want to put as much distance between themselves and the Hunters as possible! What with Holy Water, Stakes, etc
Hand Crossbows are an "issue" - my recommendation is get ahold of a 15mm model with a Crossbow, carefully cut the crossbow from the Miniature - then attach it in place of a Pistol on a 28mm Miniature (I don't have an example to show, as I did it for a painting customer on an RPG Miniature).
-
My real problem, I have TOOO many ideas and so little time!
-
Great advice Re the crossbows. Never thought of that! I see no reason not to arm vamps. Really you can take just about any figure and paint it to look like a vampire, or I suppose you can go the conversion route.
-
GW do a huge amount of models with crossbows.... Nice plastic crossbows from hand ones to big tripod mounted ones!
And due to all the "bits" shops online, you could arm your models very cheaply....
I used empire crossbows for my wolfen faction

Story of my life there... ;) Oh well as Baggy's pointed out with my current idea re: chinese I could go for a gentleman's club, (Opium den Cult of Tengu) a vampire faction and even a 'were' faction using chinese dragons etc... As you say, choices choices.
;)

Was thinking of a possible Frankenstein faction. Where the Monster returns from the North pole.
Would probably use the Vampire faction set up.
Monster as the Graf(with a few stat tweeks and skill changes)
Possible failed experiment as Consort(more stat tweeks and skill changes)
Mad doctor type as Guardian.
Grave robbers as thralls.
A couple of zombies dogs as more failed experiments.
Need to write up some fluff as why the Monster has returned etc.
Some feedback on this would be more than welcome.
Cheers BF :).
-
Very nice idea Frank, Heresy's monster dr and hunchback would be superb options for this. Chaos hounds from GW would suffice for your failed experiments. Maybe suit lycan faction more than vampire?
Oh and don't forget.... FIRE bad!
:D
-
Glad I wasn't the only one thinking of a possible Frankenstien faction. I could see that it could use either the Lycan or the Nosferatu list;but I'm just not sure that the Lycan list would have any scope for a 'Mad Doktor' type character?
Talking of Re-skinning, I was thinking of using the Westwind 'cat by blows' pack to make a Were-Leopard/big cat factions using the Lycan rules.... Hmmmmm.....
-
That was one of the thoughts on my Blog actually, how about a Were-Tiger Faction based around the Indian Thugee cult!
-
That may have even been my insperatuion; atleast subliminally. Probably not Thugees (hard to justify in the Carpathains dontcha' know...), although thinking about it in that respect, possibly some sort of Were-lynx (I may have to work on the ear tufts) might be objecting to the sudden rucus along the southern limits of it's territory? (and might give me another use for some of my cossacky types; and maybe even draw in some russian hunters too)
-
Not in Carpathia no, but London :D
You've got brown bears, wolves, chamois (a kind of goat-antelope - a pretty poor choice for a lycanthrope though) and lynxes
-
Were-tigers and Thugees in London would be funky :) - hey ho, maybe after I get all the terrain sorted.... *whisltes innocently*
-
He, He, He!
Linda (being a "Ripperholic" too) is almost as invested in my idea of doing a 'faux' "Whitechapel Disctrict" as I am - I know it's going to take time (just the planning of it has been going on for a while now) but it's something I really REALLY NEED to do LoL!

(Great minds etc...that was something I mentioned in the SOTR forum for the expanded Burma Campaign add-on a few years back).
Any thing were would work, hence my almost/potential dragon clan idea.
Keep them coming good people.

Well then you'll have no excuse not to host a South West contingency EOTD game then will you? ;)
-
I'd be delighted to - but not for a while...! I'm currently working on Carpathian houses like the ones in the village in Van Helsing, and once I've got a dozen or so of those done, I'll be moving onto London. Still, it's good to have other players who aren't a million miles away :)
-
Well Bagshot and I are Devon based so there's three unique factions in the offing! ;)
-
More than 3 if we choose - I should have enough to do a Wolfenjager club, a Darkfire club, a Cossack based gentleman's club of some sort, a Nosferatu gang and a Lycan gang... ;D ;D
Might have to take some weekend trips to Devon in the future then to get some games in :)
-
You could use the Zendarian Template for the Cossacks I reckon.
-
Okay, just for a moment, I was wishing I was not located in the midwest of the USA then I remembered I would have to leave CONUS which I have studiously avoided except for twice to Hawaii.
Gracias,
Glenn

Three?
My dear chap, the old grey cells have been in overdrive since I read the confounded rule book...
1. Lycan faction.
2. Steam-necro vampyr faction
3. Sons of Empire Gentlemens club
4. Darkfire Gentlemens club
5. League of Extrodinary Gentlemen's Club
6. Evil Toymaker ( Vamp list based faction )
7. Mr. Kurtz - Conrads Heart of Darkness based faction ( Vamp based list )
8. Col Aubrey Bagshot's Country Seat ( gentlemens club based list )
with more in the offing...
So between us unique isn't the word!
-
:o oh good grief, did nanny overdo the medicinal tintcure again old bean. lol
In fairness I've got ideas for at least five myself but not until those Chinese show up will I know for sure. Vampire, were dragon, gentlemen.s club good and an oriental hell fire club and the monster. So plenty of protagonists.

You are as insane as I am! My CURRENT List (as was discussed with v_lazy_dragon & Brummie Thug over on the Facebook EotD group)!
The Slayer Society (with various Van-Helsings and Harkers in tow)
Torchwood 1888
A Zendarian Faction
The Darkfire Club (naturally)
Two Nosferatu Factions (old miniatures and new)
Two Lycaon Factions (again old & new)
Two Brotherhood (theres a pattern to this)
The Cult of Sutekh (my own Mummy Faction rules in playtest atm)
THEN ON TOP OF THAT - all the Special Characters, two different Mobs, and the Zombies (probably two lots of Zombies actually).
-
Received my rulebook today, along with Gentlemen and Vampire starter sets, having read the book I have several ideas for factions apart from the regular ones.
The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls (started this already see http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=43172.msg503555#msg503555 first four figures should be finished and posted tomorrow)
Fagin (a mage?) and his street kids (using vampire list: Fagin-Vampire, Bill Sykes and Nancy-Heroes, and urchins-thralls)
Dr Moreau and his creations (Werewolf list?)
British Army veterans (A gentlemen's club of ex soldiers who have experienced the supernatural whilst serving abroad)
Captain Nemo and crew (adapting the Gentlemen's Club list)
Deep Ones and worshippers (adapting the Werewolf lists)
and like others I have also thought about, Frankenstein, Egyptian, Chinese and LoEG factions

I shall be posting my Mummy Faction Rules/Ideas soon!
-
Blimey - we areally are spoilt for choice down in the South-west :D
Really looking forward to seeing what-else people come up with :)
VH - cheers for the suggestion of the Zendarians for the cossacks. Any thoughts or suggestions as to a possible list for an Army patrol, sent to hunt down the 'foul beast' which has been killing villagers (ala the Dragoons in Brotherhood of the Wolf, using the North Star 1866 Prussian Jagers in brown coats, grey trousers, black shakos, black leather equipment, and weither dark green or red trim)). This will probably be seperate to my Zendarian army faction/patrol list.... :-/
-
The Zendarians will be the "easiest" to re-skin as Cossacks!
Just make sure you have a model that looks like Telly Savalas in there LoL!
